Why are you trying to connect through a VPN? If you are trying to LAN just plug all of you computers into a switch and your set. VPN's are slow and not very practical for gaming.

ive tried himachi and honestly i could never get it to perform the way i wanted.
ive also used tungle which is kind of a server based VPN so its not as personal as himachi but it worked and i was able to lan games together with it. To circumvent the public component of it i just used a game room that wouldn't ever be used, fifa06 anyone? since the rooms have no bearing on what network activity is actually passed.
i guess if that didnt make sense to you the best way for me to describe it is its a chatroom program that will lan the users in the chatroom together. As far as security is concerned im really not sure how apt it is, but like i said i just stayed in very low trafficed areas and blacklisted any other user in the room from me as i was just gaming with a personal friend of mine.
the two users in question were an xp 32bit machine and a vista64 pings were good enough to play co-op FPS with no noticable lag.

I googled tungle and all I see is just a calender app. Am I looking for the right thing?

oops im sorry i left out an n

that should be better :)
*edit* admittedly i dont know a whole lot about tunngle other than it works as some sort of VPN client. All i know i needed to get some lan play in and google for VPN came up with that and himachi. it wasnt the first time i used himachi but it still didnt work for me. Tunngle worked great.
i have a hard time networking games sometimes because i game on my PC but i use my Macbook as its internet source by sharing the wifi through the ethernet. the subnetwork the mac puts the PC gets to be a headache sometimes and hence the desire for a VPN.

thats more game specific as it deals with how it searches for net games. whats the game in question?

Hamachi honestly works better for older games. Ya know...the kind that USE to allow LAN without having to connect to the internet, create an account/login with that account first. It beats routers/firewalls that often do nothing to help connectivity regardless of how many ports you open.

So you have all your computers on the same switch and your computers couldn't find the games.?
did you allow the ports through on windows firewall?
seems like your adding more parts to the problem, when i am sure the solution is alto simpler.

Are you just plugging a cable in between the computers? I don't think that'll work, you need a crossover cable rather than plain ethernet.

Most new mobo's i believe autodetect these days and connect, crossover or straight through.

Ahh, news to me. Last time I did a direct connection, I needed a crossover cable.

Hasn't let me down in a single game of COH yet. RelicOnline drops almost every game we play 5+ players. Tunngle is great !!

I used a crossover and ethernet cable directly from one computer to the other. Sometimes they will see eachother, sometimes not. I have tried wireless too but that doesnt work either. When he used his laptop with vista like me we could see eachother in games like borderlands, doom3, operation flashpoint: dragon rising, world in conflict, etc.
Now that he has windows 7 they dont see eachother anymore. I used connect to ip from operation flash point and world in conflic and worked, but not find eachother on join list.
I have disabled all firewalls and antivirus programs, hamachi is on the top of the list on network list. I always hear about port fowarding or opening ports but dont really know how do do this. Could someone please give me any help with this or direct me to a page where it is explained?
thanks for the help so far ^^
