Hi,

I have two questions

First, My Hewlett Packard Ultra VGA 1600 22" Monitor died yesterday. Had been giving me trouble for a few days before, like constantly degauzing when restarting computer or taking a while to click on. So now I am using another monitor I have, it a Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 71 17". When I run 3dmark 2001 or 3d vid games they look choppy. Could the monitor be causing this? My 3dmark benchmark scores are the same as with the other monitor, using same resolution settings(1024x768). And nothing has changed but the monitor. I have a philips 17" monitor I tried also, choppy with it too. Also, in display settings, under monitor, it does not give me a option of changing refresh rate. Why is this? Could this me the problem? And is there another way to change refresh rate?

Second question. When my computer is running, the noise the fans create is not always the same, it sometimes sounds like fans are reving up and down. I don't know how else to describe it. If anyone knows what Im talking about, is this normal? I have several fans in my Overclocked system, including a loud cpu fan. My power supply is Generic 300 watt that came with case. I just want to know if it is normal to hear these fluctuations, and if it is safe for my system.

Thanks for your help

First, try to download and install drivers for that monitor. It may be a refresh/sync issue. My monitor (samsung) looks like crap with default drivers. The samsung drivers took care of it, however, and let me center the screen and change the refresh.

Second, I used to have a compaq on my desk at work that would rev up the fan just temporarily if I was doing something particularly taxing on the cpu. It was the strangest thing. If, for example, If I were to tax the cpu by opening something really large, it would rev up and then back down as soon as it was done. It was annoying, and I have no idea what the mechanism was that caused it to do this.

your 5 inches shorter - try adjusting your screen size.... and yes drivers are important! I use a DELL 17", a 15" as my backup when I need to swap rigs out and I use a 15" at my work.... so I stay defualt and have been lucky so far ... but then again it isn't much of a change - your is a big-un!
