hey guys I have had my GTx 275 since xmas time of 2008 I decided its time to investigate overclocking this bad boy i heard this card is pretty nice to overclock from reading previous forum post here
so I look for some advice and help should I overclock it in the first place I am quite a active player and love playing the new games very highly anticipating the lunch of battlefield bad company 2
Should I overclock my GTX 275 it is running the stock cooler
i am new to overclocking but i have overclock'ed my old E2200 which is now replaced with a Q8300 quad at stock
i got nvidia's overclocking system application installed

Why not... free performance upgrade.... Likely you will get 7-10 fps higher avg. per game and be able to surpase GTX 285 standard clocks easily. I was able to hit 741 Core 1741 Shader and 1653 on Memory with stock cooling at 81*C with Furrmark. Just read the nvidia overclocking guide and have at it. Or do a search on Google for Overclocking GTX 275.

okey ill try that thanks
I've mildly OC'd my 275 as well, it super easy. I've gotten well past the 285 clocks ;-) I always bump the fan speed up quite a bit whenver I OC though, temps rarely go above 70C

Using Windows 7 make sure you have a fresh install of Nvidia drivers and use Driver sweeper to get rid of the stock Windows Nvidia drivers as well. I know from experience. :)

well i formatted like the 22nd of January so i am on a fairly clean copy of W7 right now and so my drivers are fresh installed
1653 on Memory
What memory chips did they put on that card to do those sorts of memory clocks?

I have my 275 clocked to those in my signature. It goes even higher and stays stable but I dont need that high of an overclock. I also leave the fan speed to 60%.

might try your setting Marshmallow64 thanks for advice :)
is it worth buying a better cooler for these cards

Eh, I dont think its worth it. They already overclock decently on stock coolers.

LOL.... nice catch.... My memory is set at 1326..... thanks for that. I'm at work and was going from memory. Apparently, my memory is shot.....LOL
Correction on my clocks... 741 Core, 1642 Shaders and 1326 Memory.

Well, that's just what I was able to acheive with my card.... you may be able to go higher, or not as high. Each card is a little different. Follow the OC guide and you will do fine.
Good luck.
Yes, every card is different. Just because somebody was able to clock to such-and-such speeds does not mean you'll be able to get anywhere close to that. You might have an amazing card or you might have an overclocking dud. The best way to overclock your card would be to slowly increase each part (core, shader, memory) individually, always testing for stability and temps using programs like Furmark, 3dMark06, 3dMark Vanage, or stressful games like Crysis. Once you know the limits of each aspect, put them all together and see what you come up with.

Lol, those numbers seem a lot more realistic. Great card you got there; I was a little disappointed I couldn't get my shaders any higher, but with 756 core, I couldn't compain too much. :)
