I have a stupid question. I just built the following system, and am not sure I'm interpreting the temperature correctly:

AMD 1.0ghz Thunderbird 266mhz FSB
SOYO K7VTA Pro Motherboard
Evercool ND-9 Heatsink/Fan Combo
Maxtor 30GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
300watt power supply
48x CD-ROM
16x 10x 32x CD-RW
Mid-Tower Case
60mm Rear exhaust fan

I'm not sure I'm reading the temperatures correctly in the VIA Hardware Monitor. The default CPU overheat temp. is listed at 60c, and the CPU hysteresis is 40c. The system overheat temp. is listed at 50c, and the system hysteresis is 40c. However, my actual CPU temp (according to the hardware monitor) is usually at 27-28c, and the system temp is usually around 38c. Is this correct? Is this good? Am I reading this correctly? I was just so concerned about keeping my system cool, and now (at least judging by the VIA hardware monitor), it seems to be doing almost too well. Any thoughts?

Okay... this is weird. I just shut my system down, restarted, and went into the actual BIOS. The BIOS says that my processor is at about 37c, and my system is at 28c... which is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what the VIA Hardware Monitor in Windows says.

What Gives????? Is this still a good temperature?

The temp is ok maybe a little high but you might want to try another program to verify your temps. Try mbm 5 or sandra will tell you temps just to get a second opinion but sandras temps are backwards on mine and i think yours is too on via hardware monitor.

Just remember that the insocket temp probes can be anywhere from 1C-10C off in temps. If you want to know the real temps I'd say buy a DigiDoc 5 or a compunurse.
