I am here to admit my addiction to Diablo III. They say early acknowledgement is the first step on the path to recovery. Is this early enough? We need to support each other in this trying, Diablo III-less time.

:grouphug:

In other news, I've heard rumor of Hellgate being revived. Apparently all this time it has been thriving in the Asian gaming circles, with development tweaks improving on its grand concept. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Or is it just wild speculation?

You must really be addicted since D3 isn't even out yet :D

I haven't heard much about Hellgate lately, I played it and didn't really like it too much.

When D3 arrives I WILL be addiced, no doubt. I still play D2 every now and then.

I had heard another company had bought hellgate london and was reopening it. It was on kotaku eh this summer i thought something like that. As far as i know it's still up and running somewhere by some company?

Also you could give dungeons and dragons online a try. It's very diablo-ish in and out dungeon runs a lot of fun. Been playing on Thelanis server name is richowns. Just started with my work buddy.

Buff, I'm here for you man. I've already planned 3 months away from the world where I will be doing nothing but Diablo III and poker.

Hellgate is coming back, another company picked it up, you can google "Hellgate: Resurrection" and find out all the info.

I, as well, can't wait for DIII. Sady, I'm anticipating a late 2011 release, if not 2012 :(

2011 Blizz will probably dedicate to wow cataclysm and they have a habit of 1 big thing at a time, as especially diablo 3 will take a lot of players away from wow.

I rekon it will be over the next 2-3 years blizz will announce their next MMO for release 2014/15 or something. 2013/14 will be expansions releases

my guess is something like:
2010 SC2
end of 2010 start of 2011 wow cat
end of 2011 SC2 expansion
2012 D3
2013 second SC2 expansion
end of 2013 D3 expansion
2014 - the next big thing!

D3 might ruin my life.

They should really stop announcing things more than a year ahead of time. Torchlight will be a full fledged, thriving MMO well before D3 hits. All of this D3 business is just plain disappointing. Did I play D2 like a cracked out monkey at times? Yes... will I do it again with D3? Most likely.... but... please please please stop teasing us!!! By the time this comes out it will run great on a cellphone or netbook... sheesh...

It's kind of hard not to announce a game in advance when 80% of gamers could have predicted its release 13 years ago. But I agree, I don't need to see gameplay trailers until the last 6 months.

I will hate blizzard if it takes till 2013, Probably won't even be playing games anymore. I think they should release asap to profit on hype and on the memories of people playing the game. Activision might pressure them, maybe?

Here is a hint about Diablo III release date 2010 by Mike Morhaime, Blizzard’s CEO:

“I’d just like to reiterate that we haven’t announced any release dates on any future titles, and I’ll also reiterate that the move of StarCraft into next year does not impact the schedule, so it would be correct to conclude that you could expect two releases of Blizzard next year, but I would not make any conclusion on what those titles are going to be.”

This comment was made at the end of 2009 when asked when Diablo III might be released.

I can't wait for Diablo III either. I've stopped looking at vids of it and their website in an attempt to forget about it, so I can be excited when it's finally released. :P

I ended up cracking and pre-purchasing Supreme Commander 2 the other night. I thought SC and Forged Alliance were good, so why not try the latest. (Preloading SC2 right now through Steam..11.8% through)

I haven't checked their website since they announced the game pretty much. Just because of the fact i know it's forever away from being released and it just drives me insane.

But for now i've found dungeons and dragons online it's no blizzard product but fun dungeon running smash everything you see fun lol.

If Steam has Torchlight on sale again, I would highly recommend it. Other than a BP.. it's one of the best $5 I have spent in a while....

I'm a really big Diablo fan and yet Torchlight failed to suck me in. Few reasons:

Generic MMO-like quests.
No storyline to speak of.
No unique, epic bosses.
Skill ideas a bit poor.
No multiplayer.
Cartoonish graphics.

But I would recommend getting it for $5, when on sale.

I think they did alright with it considering there was less than a year into making it. Hopefully the mmo version of it improves these things.

D3 still has a while to go (or so it seems). They haven't given any significant updates in a long time. It's possible for a next year release but hard to tell. Those two games could be SC2 + the Torchlight MMO... at least trying to make myself expect that, to avoid the disappointment if it isn't D3.

doubtful blizzard will be releasing a Torchlight MMO seing as its not really their ip ;). WoW expansion on the otherhand + SCII is what i would bank on if i were betting.

Well lately I just can't find a game that keeps me very busy. I find myself playing for 10 minutes then going back to watching tv on my spare time lol.

Eh maybe it's time to throw in the flag and just start my 2ndary wow account back up again lol i had bought wrath for it and then quit playing.

I just can't find anything i enjoyed like WOW i think D3 will be that magic thing but eh I can't make it another two years waiting for good gaming. Being a gamer and hating tv makes my spare time drag because I tend to dislike shooters and only like mmos but after wow lol just can't find something to keep me busy sept for WOW!

Please blizz either send assassins to end my suffering or give me D3 already wow has sucked me dry lol.

I like D2 been playing that also but eh always find myself soloing, because i like hardcore and just never get anyone joining my games lol. So it gets old.

Oh, did they cancel it then? Been hearing for a while that they're making Torchlight into an MMO in the future. But the release along with SC2 will more likely be Cataclysm instead.

I hate how mmo's make me suck at gaming, and have longed for an mmo with a high skill cap for a very long time but it doesn't seem to be happening. Getting back to fps is shaking my rust off again.

The only game I find worth to regularly play in multiplayer has been BFBC2. Usually I find more fun to play both an rpg of some type and an fps daily, so gaming still seems half-fulfilled right now... got an fps but no rpg.

Tried getting back into D2 a few months ago. Was fun for a bit but after a week or two I stopped since nobody I know even plays it anymore, which makes it boring.

haha no no, torchlight is a runic games title, which are the ex-blizzard north developers (guys behind Diablo/D2), well some of the ex-blizzard north guys at least. Blizzard wont be releasing a torchlight MMO simply because it's not theirs to release. ;)

rofl, I keep forgetting that. My brain seems to be stuck on "blizzard north, creators of D2 = BLIZZARD!" since to me those were the 'real' Blizzard... now it's lots of different developers who have a different view on making games, which is one of the things nobody seems to take into account when thinking about D3... if it will really live up to what everyone expects. Yes, by instinct that gives me some doubts in a way.

Namely, the paying for features/items. It's because the current Blizzard team is more focused on making as much profit as possible, and D3 will not be 'pay per month' so they need (in their view) to make longer-term profit than just the initial sales. It will be 'pay to play' in a way, depending on the player. If they go too far with this though (for example, putting up so many items/things that give players an advantage for sale online, that someone could spend several hundred $ and buy all of them to start out with huge gear/stat advantages and go around pvp'ing thinking they're accomplishing something), that would badly ruin the game.

according to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard_North) part of the reason for the closure of Blizzard North was its poor development of D3 in its original context. But I take the other stance having seen the main blizzard studio as my meat and potatoes if only for the fact I've spent countless hours in warcraft, I II and III, and Starcraft, which north had little to do with if anything. I sill play wc3 on a daily basis nearly 10 years after its release haha.

Though I'd agree with you that the post Vivendi acquisition of blizzard may have pushed for larger profit margins I still feel the developers maintain all the control they need over their franchises to put out games that have blown any of my expectations. This is evidenced by the fact they have been able to cancel late cycle projects, ghost and wc: lord of the clans come to mind, for "not living up to expectations". It's my opinion if blizzard were run by, oh say EA, we would have these titles and we would also probably think very poorly them.

That's not to say I dislike the Diablo franchise or Blizz north, the series has most certainly taken its toll on my poor little left click button.

They'll hopefully keep much of the random stat generation system for items while having a good balance of the unique weapons also... one very important thing is not making the uniques too powerful like better than the hardest to get stats rare of the same type, but not too weak like the original d2c uniques were, either.

And a huge variation of cool effects/skins on the weapons/armor depending on the stats. They haven't shown us anything at all about the items yet (other than what you see the characters using in the few videos), it's been only the classes so far.

Really need a physical projectile class too, some type of archer/gunner, for some reason I always like playing that class and kind of feeling they will either not include it (right now there's only 1 unannounced class left, it seems) or put in some really weird version of it in an attempt to be 'unique'. Which would be a letdown; I don't give a sht what they call it, archer, bowman, hell 'robinhoodwannabelol', as long as it feels proper and has solid mechanics. Can't be sure if they will get it right until I see it.

I agree, I really enjoy playing the ranged class in RPG's, makes me wonder why I wound up as a tank in WoW when i still played...But I think the premise of the Diablo combat makes a ranged class difficult to implement without the use of some sort of tanking "pet" just because of the huge mass of enemies that constantly rush at your hero.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if and when there is a ranged class implemented a pet mechanic isn't attached to it.

All I'm hoping for is more team play and harder / more epic bosses.

I think a lot of the classes will have so many different ways to play them, everyone will find something they like.

But I will say a Javazon and Bowazon were two of my favorite things to play in D2. Javazon + cow level = win. Buriza bow + piercing arrow was also fun as hell.
