I dug out MLB The Show 09 to play last night and when I stuck the game in to play it just infinitely accessed the hard drive. Eventually I just killed it and when I restarted the PS3 it said it was recovering hard drive corruption.
Now I try to play the game and it downloads an update for the game. When I download the update it either gives me a game data is corrupted error or it goes back to the infinite loading cycle.
As far as the infinite loading cycle goes, it just accesses the hard drive forever. AFAICT the BD drive isn't even being accessed.
PS2 games play fine. my demo games play fine. BD movies play fine. Any ideas?

You haven't noted if other PS3 disc games play fine.
At any rate, all you have to do is delete the Game Data (as opposed to the "Save Data"), reinstall (if MLB09 installs) and update again.
Should be fine.
My cousin just had this same problem with NBA2k10

It's the only PS3 game I have and I have tried deleting the game data and it does the same thing. Any other ideas?

It may seem a little far fetched, but do you happen to have another HDD you can put in to see if the hard drive is failing?
That's the ONLY game you have? wut
Maybe try backing up and formatting. But that is a long process depending how much data you have on your HDD.

You need to get another game and try it. Also try backing up your Save Data and deleting it. Could be just a corrupt save game. No point in going through any big trouble if you don't have to.
