Ok I've waited long enough :D I want all the rigs folding under my name on one instance of HFM or a couple.

I see you can set it up to monitor information via webserver, ftp server.

Help me do this someone :D. I take it there will have to be a webserver or ftp server installed the remote computers?

The one computer there is one installed there.

I'll keep thinking about it

I have been meaning to learn how to do this since starting the time critical -Bigadv wu's. I want to know exactly how they are doing at all times.

Question 1) I can use Comcast as a web server correct?

I had a site my wife and I played around with in the past, I guess I just have to figure it out.
I uploaded all the files but I am not sure what to do with them.

I use hamachi and folder sharing. I'm guessing the webserver or FTP method either has HFM get a file from URL or login to an FTP and get it from there, so you would need either on the remote machine. It may be possible to set a script to upload all the files to a central webserver and then have HFM check them.

Yeah after reading I guess I can't use Comcast for it.

Reading up on Hamachi....

Yes you can use comcast if you have some available webspace. I use my charter FTP webspace that came with my internet service. You just need to format it like this ftp://username:yourpassword@webpages...net/EOCStatus/

I have it linked in my sig but my computer is down right now because of a bad pump!!

I have a Borg that used to run VM/Ubuntu and now runs the GPU. I have it set up to copy the FAHlog.txt and unitinfo.txt to my web site using a backup program and HFM reads it from there.

When runnign VM/Ubuntu, I had to share the VM drive and copy the files to anotehr location as Ubuntu would not allow me to directly copy the files to the FTP. So, under Ubuntu, it was a 2 step backup process.

Does that make sense? From VM->2nd directory-> FTP->HFM Local PC

I was just showing how the format should be set with HFM. How do you connect to your webspace with comcast, FTP? If so you want to type it with that format in the URL line within HFM.

I can vouch that hamachi is a nice simple way to monitor clients over a network.

nah i'm not going to install something else to monitor it. I'm using Teamviewer right now. I just wanted to have HFM see the file(s) from the remote computers

it should be simple with an ftp or webserver but my brain is not working correctly.

Ok... I'm here, at least for a while...

@d - you really just want to use the Web Generation option. You don't have remote clients, but you'd like to be able to check their progress from any internet connected computer. You're comcast webspace should work fine. If you'd like to discuss in private (I'm sure you don't want to share you login details with everyone) then I'll be happy to help ya... you know where my PM box is. :)

@GIXXER - you need to install IIS on the machine you want to monitor over HTTP or FTP. Either that, or you can use FileZilla. If you're gonna do FTP I think FileZilla is more secure and probably easier to setup and remove. The remote machine will also need ports opened up in the router serving that machine... if you don't have access to the remote machine to set this up, it's going to be tricky.

Hamachi is another solution... which really may be easier to setup... could you give us a simple "quick" setup on hamachi db? Once it's done the machine wouldn't need an HTTP or FTP server... it would appear as if it was on your network with your other machines, which would allow you to set it up as a standard "Path" instance in HFM.

Install Samba, they should show up in your network. Share the fah folder. I rebooted and it was there.

They are connected to your LAN corect? My path in HFM looks like \\UBUNTU\fah6\

Some one else will have to chime in on your work PC's.

Thanks H thats really nice of you, although Comcast does ftp I am a little confused as to how to manipulate the files I have from HFM in my file locker. I successfully uploaded them. That was easy but now I have them in my file space and have to figure out how to generate them on the web page. I'll PM if I can't figure it out.:)

I have a question about the path in HFM as well it keeps snapping back to default. "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\MyFolding"

Sounds like a good idea harlam, a quick tutorial on setting up hamachi coming up.

I have access to the remote machine I'll ask them if they mind, which I don't think they will. I just need access to that one folder for hfm and I'll be set. I couldn't get the ports working the other day and I don't know why.

It was installed but it did not work...
It required a reinstall to work:bang head

How do I monitor my Ubuntu machines from my windows machines?
I also have 3 machines at work I would like to monitor.

Do you want to monitor them locally at work... from a Windows machine running HFM on your work LAN? If so, Samba is the cure, as dfonda says... I have a setup guide for Ubuntu in the Intro Sticky.

Or do you want to monitor them from your Windows machine at home?

The latter will be more difficult depending on your how your work LAN firewall is setup. If it doesn't allow inbound connections on port 80 (for http) or ports 21 & 20 (for active ftp) then it'll be a bit difficult.

Thanks H thats really nice of you, although Comcast does ftp I am a little confused as to how to manipulate the files I have from HFM in my file locker. I successfully uploaded them. I have a question about the path in HFM as well it keeps snapping back to default. "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\MyFolding"

That's weird... if you change it, it should change. \inetpub\wwwroot\ is the standard website base for IIS on a machine... so that's just the default if one has IIS installed and wants the html files to be placed in a web accessible folder on their local machine.

So did you figure it out?

So did you figure it out?No unfortunately I spent yesterday and it looks like today keeping all my clients at full strength.

Having a bit of a problem I'll ask about -bigadv in the proper thread.

I won't forget your offer, but I will spend some time on it myself so I learn it proper!:)

I got Hamachi working just fine for 3 computers.

1 just i7 stock(for now
1 i7 @ 3.8 with a BFGGTS250 1GB @ 740-1998-1100
1 i7 @ 3.8 with a BFG9800GTX+512 & XFX9800GTX+512 @ 740-1998-1100

I would fold on the stock i7's HD 5850 but he pipes movies from the desktop to his home theatre via HDMI and I figured that would mess him up sometimes.
