View Full Version : budget PSU for i7@920
All,
going to build i7 system for folding 24/7 with the following pieces+ load:
cpu: i7 920@4ghz
board: UD4/UD3R or P6t SE
RAM: 2x2GB DDR3
HDD: 3.5" SATA/PATA 40-50GB
video: 2mb pci S3
OS: opensuse or slackware
PSU: ?
I'm looking at OCZ 500W Modstream Pro (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL022310&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL022310-_-PowerSupplies-_-L0H-_-17341016) and Corsair 400W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008)
They are both 39.99 after rebates.
Which one should I pick?

I know they are refurbed but it's better than getting something that could potentially not have enough power for the future.

Corsair 400, it has plenty of power for that setup even if you OC the balls off it.

The future would be to replace it with Hex core :)
And i think it would use about the same or less power compares to i7 920.
This is just a plain folding rig that eventually I would stack them up as folding farm.

You'll like it, they're great.
They can actually produce what they're rated at, which is very nice :D

I have been using the Corsai 750's and 850's in the systems Im building and have never lost one or had a bad one yet. I have heard that the CM new series is nice though.
