Hey guyz,
i managed to smudge arctic silverII on my duron's core,
and looked like it also got to the bridges. From what i hear, acsilverII isnt conductive.
I tried to take it out using acetone, but looks like i smeared it even more.
now when i boot up, it will hang at the start of post.
saying
1000mhz
and nvram...... and thats it...... it will hang from there
should i start sending out invitations for its funeral>?

Use dish soap, like dawn and a little water to clean it off. That works great. Then report back.
The doubt the ASII is the problem, but try it anyway.
Also, did you happen to mess up any mods you made to the bridges on the Duron, like on the L7's maybe?

Is Arctic Silver II really conductive or what because I have the ickie stuff all over the place on my AMD T-Bird, XP CPUs and VIA, but not my nVIDIA nFORCE, Chipsets. Please tell me that it's not conductive at all!

I do this regulary with a toothbrush as well and it comes out looking new. I would'nt put the cpu underwater but a brief rinse under the tap (on the top) works fine. I then dry it and to make sure I got all the water, a little hair dryer action. Don't get it real hot.
If the board is posting then the cpu is not dead.

yes, i did consider my gf's toothbrush but man, the sight of her smiling at me with silver teeth, ack...
just used a damp towel with a tad of palmolive dish washing soap (if it helps, also softens hands :D ).
but you are right, the toothbrush would've worked much better.
Does she have braces? Would be a good way to check the as2 conductivity. Saves on buying a tester. :D

LOL...
no need to test for conductivity, she fairly much lights up and unloads on me when i'm doing my pc stuff or playing cs(in my own lil world) and i just go uhuh, uhuh, sure, uhuh, after 30min. of conversation has gone by and she suddenly sez', "are you even listening? .............uhuh... {everything went out the other ear...}
:D
btw flounder,
my duron would hang loading winxp now since i changed the memory from a 256corsair pc2400 to 2 sticks of generic pc133 (512 and 128) even at 112/112 fsb.
vcore still at 1.85.
heh, i guess you really get what you pay for...
