Hello,

I get a looot of tearing and if not tearing the least I get is a very choppy gameplay. I have it a lot in Modern Warfare 1 and 2, and Bad Company 2, which are currently the only games I have on my system. I've tried vsync on and off but they're still very choppy and I have a lot of tearing.. I used fraps to count my fps and I'm running them both maxed out and I get 90+ fps at Modern Warfare and 70+ at Bad Company 2.

What's the cause of this?

Regards.

Have you tried different drivers?

Have you tried different drivers?

Hmm, no. I currently run on 10.2. Which one should I try? 9.12 (as I read there were many problems with 10.1). Also: Do I just install them over 10.2 or do I have to uninstall 10.2 first?

Thanks in advance.

What type of display are you using? When I went from an analog 17" LCD to a my 42 inch Vizio 120hz tv using HDMI I get all kinds of choppiness and tearing like you describe, however...if I change to the analog d-sub connector instead of digital its nice and smooth but the colors aren't as vibrant and a little washed out.

Uninstall 10.2... then boot into safe mode and run driver sweeper, reboot then install the 9.12's

I'm running 10.1 with no problems... but try 9.12

I'm on the Samsung SyncMaster 2333SW. That's digital 23" 1920x1080 @ 60Hz.

Thanks. I will try this.

Edit: Installed 9.12 and it's still exactly the same. I don't notice it when I play Dirt 2, but most other games I do.

Disable Catalyst AI in the 3d settings. I had the same problems as you. Mine works great now.

yea disable that AI crap, it also doesent do much except cause problems with image quality and drops your FPS.

i just install over old drivers, no problems so far

I installed 10.2 over 10.1 and had no problems as well. I think it is only necessary to uninstall the drivers if you are changing cards.

Alright guys. It has improved but when playing Bad Company 2 it's still very shocky and choppy.. Most of the tearing is gone though with disabling A.I.

Average fps is about 80. Doesn't go below 60..

I get some tearing too, my fps varies a lot though. Avg 55 in multiplayer but min goes down to 17. If your max ever exceeds your monitor's refresh rate you'll always notice a little tearing.

My Catalyst AI is maxed (Advanced), gives me a little fps boost, but no excessive tearing like you mention.

Yes, but mine is stable and very rarely goes below 60..

Will disable it and run fraps bench for several maps today.

Bad Company 2 is just poorly coded, if that's the only game you are having trouble with now then I wouldn't worry too much.

As stated in the first post, it isn't the only game. It's even worse in Modern Warfare 1 and 2.

Is your hard drive activity light going while you play? If so I can attribute your problem most likely to only having 2GB of ram and games using virtual memory to make up the extra. Used to happen to me on Vista in games like battlefield.

2GB these days just isn't quite enough on the bigger games when you have background programs running. I was able to use up to 1.5GB on BF2 alone!

oh i didnt see that before, i know in modern warfare, or the first one atleast, i would imagine the seccond would be the same, theres a FPS cap when playing multiplayer.

you'll have to punch it into the console, look it up, its a process some times

possibly a FPS cap in single aswell but i am not sure

Possibly 2GB of ram that may be the culprit... It could be paging out.

Have you tried it at stock CPU/GPU clocks? Run memtest lately? What OS/SP version?

Yes, I only overclocked a few days ago and I tested it more thoroughly than necessary. Windows 7 32-bit. Before the overclock it was exactly the same.

Yes.

I don't think that's the cause. I also know my way around the console because of Counter-Strike: Source.

Perhaps. But I've never seen the usage above 80%.

If your hard drive is grinding while you're playing then your choppiness is definitely due to only 2GB of ram. The rest is being used by your pagefile, on your hard drive, which is significantly slower than ram.

I see. Then it's clear what I'll buy next month.

I use low ram on some pc's it does not cause tearing it causes stalling in games you don't need more ram.

He already told us his hard drive was paging while it was happening, so yes, he does need more ram. ;)

your issue is 1000% because of only 2gb of system memory, especially on vista or windows 7, if you fire up any recent game and your already using max memory at around 2gb... of course everything is going to be choppy and unbearable. I've seen your posts alot, seen your nice OC on the 9550, one of the only times I posted in one of your numerous threads and VERY EARLY on I mentioned you NEED 4gb of MEMORY, this should have been a priority, I find it completely odd this hasnt really been recommended here. Put your whole rig to stock and add 2 more gb of memory and you'll have a completely smooth gaming experience.

I have that too, but only on Left 4 Dead 2. Every ten minutes it just repeats the last second it played for about 20 seconds and then I can continue again. Since it was the only game I had it at and I wasn't a legit version I didn't look into it. But that is not the case with the other games so that made me go look for a solution.

When you run the game the OS will leave the memory and the game will fill the memory over time the game will get smoother as you play unless it's like left 4 Dead and it will not all fit and you get one big stall.

I did not see you say your hard drive was grinding.

left 4 dead system recommend 2Gig with vista

Bad Company 2 system recommend Main memory: 2GB vista win7

however video resolution makes a big difference in memory loading the higher the res the more memory you need. 1920x1080

I indeed, play on 1920x1080. I don't know what grinding is. I do know that with most games, the HDD LED is flickering a lot. It's probably the RAM anyway. No worries!
