IMHO this is a waste of time. It goes by average time per WU - If I play Black and White for 20 mins the avg time goes up to >=1000s!!

Very inaccurate.

But it's good for managing clients over a network which is its real strength. That is what I use it for. With a couple clicks of the mouse I can verify that all systems are still up and running and don't have to do anything else. If it was just to monitor a single system I probably wouldn't bother with it since most of that information is taken care of by the client or by the stats page and I only glance at the time/frame stats to see if there are any abnormalities. If not then it's good to go and foldmonitor slides gracefully back to my sys tray. :)

If you lower raise refresh rate to 600 sec (default)you will see an improvement

I agree with ploaf, it is good for keeping an eye on the other rigs. It has saved me lost time more than once...

Furthermore, I leave it on so it keeps a count of the proteins that are folded, and logs the resuts in an easy to read format.

PenguinFreak,

It may be inaccurate.
But maybe not.
If you have finished only one frame and are close the finishing the second frame when you start playing Black and White (whatever that is), it could happen.
I assume that playing B&W will take most or all of the cpu cycles. Twenty minutes is equal to 1200 seconds. If the first frame took, say, 600 seconds, then the second frame took 1800 seconds (adding the time you were playing). The average of the 2 would be 1200 seconds.

Of course, that's a lot of "ifs". But it could happen.
Just a thought.

You hit it Ned. FoldMonitor is telling him that he did no folding while playing the game.

"Thank ya. Thank ya very much."

The only times FM has looked strange to me is when I haven't had my clocks "synced". I love FM.

On my 450 rig, something is not set right and the video just stops working. But with FM, I can see that it's still folding away and I don't have to re-boot and risk losing all of that work.

And right now it's doing a THR SIDECHAIN - AMBER:
10 frames
165.44 minutes per frame

and it's in the middle of the 9th frame.

I aint touchin' it.

I get these crazy negative numbers somtimes...

flounder,

Try this.
Sync your clocks; then close FM and re-start it.
Usually works for me.
If that doesn't clear it up right away, it will when the next protein starts.

Call me a newb, but how does one "sync" one's clocks?

I'll only call you a newb if we're talking about Linux. :) :) :)
That's a joke. I read your post about being bored.

Sorry I should have included that. Make sure all of your computer clocks have the same time. You can do it manually. Getting a program to do it is easier. Links for that were posted by Den sometime back. But it'll be quicker for you and me if you just look someplace like www.freewarehome.com. That's where I got mine.
I'm using Time Synchro. I don't know if it's the best, but it worked, so I stopped looking. Let me know it that clears up the FM problem.

Never mind about saving time. I found it real quickly by doing a search.

Very few posts out there with "sync your clocks" in them. Imagine that.

It's about half way down. You can do a find on

if you like.

Sorry about that. I really didn't have a clue, and hence didn't even think of doing a search.

BTW, what is up with the new name?

It wouldn't let me register from home as NedClocker because that one is already taken. There is obviously a way to do it, but I don't know how.

You can tell by reading that post, thread, whatever, that no one else knew what he meant by sync your clocks.

Cool. Thanks. I'll have to remember to email myself my password when I get to work tomorrow. That way, no number of post will rack up under one name.

Say, when I asked if you knew any attorneys who would work for free, back on new year's eve, I had no idea that you were one.
My friend didn't blow because, even though he did not act intoxicated, he might have been "legaly". Also, those machines are only 99.9% acurate. You might be the unluck one in a thousand who blows a false positive. I wish the odds of hitting the big lotto were that good. And, yes, they suspend your license for refusing here too. But it beats the alternative. If you blow positive, you're guilty. Case closed.

My rig is not on 24/7. It counts time overnight when the PC is OFF into my average. I do see how it is useful over a network tho.

Cool. I don't know how to get it to not add in the time you're down. Fold on!

Perhaps write to a log file every 10mins so it can see the last time it was active?

its nice for monitoring stats on my dually. i can just glance down and see what % the wu's are at. I really dont care about the frame times. If you want changes made to the program drop a donation in the box at the authors site and ask kindly for him to fix it.
