Blinking led light on hdd activity?

So i was thinking of making a cool blinking light effect that goes with my hdd activity. But i want it to control multiple lights. I was wondering how i could set this up. I have some basic knowledge.I was thinking of running parallel Leds through the motherboard and powered by molex 12volt.

how many LED's are you looking to run?

I asked a similar question about running LED's off the power LED header on the motherboard (I have a second set of fromt panel headers for EVGA's little add on thingy) and the consensus was the 5-6 I wanted would be safe to run off the header.
