Hi. I hope this isn't offtopic since it's not really about OCing.

My older brother has an old Athlon 500 computer that he never use anymore in the basement, which my younger brother wanted to use to play some games since he never gets any computer time around the house, I feel sorry for him and promised him that I'll upgrade that pathetic machine for him.

Classic Slot A Athlons are very expensive, a 1Ghz classic Athlon (if you can find it) is now selling for about $290. T-birds on the other hand, even slot A are a lot less expensive. The problem is, this computer is an IBM machine, IBM Aptiva to be precise. Buying a new Motherboard will be another good idea but if SlotA T-birds actually run on this thing then it'd be more feasible for me to just buy the new CPU and pop it in.

Please view this shot from the hardware device:

Now:
1) Could someone please tell me whether or not this is on Irongate 751? If this isn't the right place to look then where?
2) How do I find out the maximum supported CPU speed for this mobo?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i think it would be cheaper to upgrade to like a ECS Mobo and a duron for just gaming. and try to sell the old cpu with mobo.

Yeah but what if the original motherboard has integrated video? Then you add a decent chunk of change to the upgrade price.

Why cant your bro handle the 500MHz? Is it really that bad? It may be better to just live with a slower machine than to spend $ for an upgrade that isnt the best.

My $.02

Hi, I have an old k-2 500 Aopen 59 pro, use as duel boot (linux & Winblow's) and have win 2000 pro on it for playing Quake3 and works fine! not as fast as my 2 other OC'ed mobo's Abit kt7a-raid, and Epox 8kha+, but just as much fun!! and not that slow!;)

That lil prick likes to play Medal of Honor, which requires like a 700Mhz machine. The FPS is somewhere from 4 to 40 FPS on this 500Mhz.

Anyway, back to my original quesiton, anyone knows if that's 751 irongate? Are all 751 Northbridge and 756 Southbridge systems "Irongate"s? Or is that a different thing?

Any help, again, much appreciated. Btw thanks for suggestions too.
