View Full Version : NuForce Icon uDAC
I'm thinking of buying the NuForce Icon uDAC.
I have a pair of M-audio AV40's and an audigy2, would the uDAC make much of a differance in sound quality.
Anyone use this product?

For music listening, the uDAC will most definitely sound better than the A2...no question. Ive owned quite a few external DACs, both very low budget and mid-fi, and Ive never had a soundcard that sounded better than one. The closest I had was my Audiotrak Prodigy HD2, and that was even far beyond the A2 in terms of sound quality. Hell, for 2 channel music listening, it was even much better than my X-Fi.

Oh oh I do! Not sure why you are calling it a uDAC though, I like to just call it a DAC. Anyway,
You'll probably get a nice boost in SQ from the DAC. I've found that when using it just as an amp, it sounds a bit bright, but it's better when being used as a DAC. Just find a place where it won't come unplugged easily. ;)
Thanks guys! I think I'll give it a try then.
This product makes good headphone amp, right?

Yes, in fact it it'd probably be better of driving headphones then being used just as a DAC. None the less it'll do a fine job at both.

Somewhat, but you would have the same problem with any other DAC that you plug in through usb b. The bigger problem is that a lot of programs need to at least be restarted if you unplug a DAC while they are running, or at least in XP.
If you just have a nice spot for it you'll be fine. If you don't have any space anywhere because your room is a gigantic mess (See: me) then you might have problems from time to time.
Does this come with drivers, software? I cant find anything about what the interface looks like.

No, it auto detects in windows. You just plug it in and it works. :)
