What cause registry errors when loading an OS?

I'm attempting to get 98SE onto my old Celly 266 on AOpen AX6L machine but I keep getting registry errors. What cause them? RAM, one of the cards or something else? Or, are the causes different on a case-to-case basis?

My guess would be ram... could also be the HD though.:eh?:

It was the RAM. I put some PC100 in it and it worked fine. Thanx.

That happens to me all the time when I was in Win 98. It was just Win 98 itself or sometimes overclocking sometimes does that.
