I will soon be painting my cdroms and floppy drives black for my upcoming black hydraulic tower. I'm not really sure which type of paint I should be usiing. I've got a few cans of Krylon interior/exterior gloss paint, but I doubt that is the one I should use. I want the finish to be the somewhat like the finish on monitor. It has that "gritty" and "rough" feel to it. Let's just say I want the finish to be like those drives that are sold in black.

Suggestions?

I have seen different types of textured spray paint but if you have access to a sandblaster you could blast them lightly to give them that texture and then spray them with light coats of paint, just enough to give them solid color and not fill in the texture.

I give the drive faces one even coat of paint, let it dry for an hour or two, then come back and give them a dusting of paint from a couple of feet away. This gives them a texture like many cases have.
Just a quick dusting, wait a half hour and then do it again. You can continue this to give it more and more texture.

This gives closer results than a flat paint would, and it wears better against button use on the painted buttons.

Tell me how that goes.. I was gonna paint my case if I couldn't find it in the right color..

Any ideas beside type of paint? Maybe a brand? Aight, I'm out.

Best bet is usually automotive paint. For the textured look you are after, you can try Rustoleum Hammered Metal finishes. I believe they come in at least 4 colors.

Here is a little guide by Linear on painting faceplates/plastic bezel's with a vinyl dye paint.
