my celeron 1 gig suddenly died on friday for no reason?
anyone else out there experiencing the same problem
the 2nd thing i don`t like about this proc is the pcb material
looked closely at it and noticed small bubbles on the surface
p.s. did not overclock it, ran it stock.

Can you give us more detail?
Did you change the heatsink or anything?
It could have burned or something.
you could have gotten a bum chip...they are out there :(
have you tried any other chips in that board? Perhaps its not the chip.

no! i was using thestock intel heatsink with the thermal paste.
it ran fine for about 2 weeks , then on thursday i tried to boot
into windows, no luck windows was gone.
so itried to download linux os everytime it wentto reboot to
finish dwnloading it started downloading all over again. (5 times)
after becoming really ****** off!
i shut it down for the night, i turned it on in the morning.
all i got was 1 long beep, i figured it was the mobo,
but just to double check i took the proc out and restarted it
the long beep was gone, power still came on heard hard drive
activity/cdrom/floppy etc.
i realised the cpu was dead , i still cant figure it out
now here`s the question!
do i RMA it for another celeron 1 ghz or do i pay extra money
and go for a pentium 3 1 ghz processor
i do not deny it was 1 fast proc.
p.s. anyone recommend a copper low-profile heatsink with a
damm good fan ( yes i know i should have used arctic silver)
david
Hmm RMA is free since its a waranty your chip is under. Your chip is retail or OEM? If you bought it at a local store you should go complain to them.
But double check everything, perhaps your ram came loose. Its definitely not your video card since video cards give off lots of beep...
Hmm Try disconnecting everything except:
PSU
MOBO
CPU
RAM
VIDEO CARD
ATA/IDE cables leading to the motherboard pull them out. Take out all the power of the ATA/IDE devices. Take out all PCI Slots.
Then do this:
Make sure the power supply is off and the coord is going reset the cmos wait 30mins then come back and put the jumper back in the CORRECT SPOT.
Do not boot with the jumper out.
Then see if it boots. If it doesn't its most likely down to those components.
