According to this article by Intel, they talk about how they will have a 20GHz (20000MHz) processor ready before the end of the Decade!

Need I say more?

Wow.
"My 10Gig Intel overclocked to 13gigs"
Yodums
Hey Axia.. How about pre-ordering one of those for me? By the decade ends I'll be in University! It'll be good!

20?!:eek: :eek: :eek: it is beyond my comprehension....
Crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought it said 10gigs! BUT ITS 20?
I remember about 1-1/2 years ago it was a major deal to hit 1 gig. Intel should have a 3 gig P-4 out by the end of this year.

Heard something like that in debates where they said Intel will be hitting 3 gig by the end of this year while AMD will be hovering around 2 gigs some where.

I read in a magazine that intel had developed something called terahertz technology that would make 25Ghz possible in 3 yrs, is that just a load of rubbish then?

imagine they are 100 FSB just like the NW's....:eek: :eek:
200x multiplier!!!!!!!!!!
200x133= 26600!!!!!!!!!!!!
....my 20Ghz overclocked to 26Ghz....:D :D :D
OH MAN I CANT WAIT!
intel is changing the northwoods over to 133mhz fsb later this year.
most likeley the 20ghz will be running on 400mhz fsb or higher
mmm 400mhz QDR fsb :D
or maybe even an 8 pipeline fsb by then ;)

wow!!!
Thats cool
I remember when the 500mhz came out and then the 1ghz.

In 2004, Intel will switch to 667MHz FSB (166.66x4) and speeds of over 6GHz on the Pentium4 will be reached with this high front side bus speed. Also, dont be surprised if the Northwood P4 hits or even surpasses 4GHz at stock 100% stable.
Eventually, AMD and Intel will use a 1066MHz FSB. This is just a roadmap 'guess' and I wouldnt expect something like this till at least 2006.
ODR? , hmm I've looked for information on that but have came up with nothing. The only thing still is QDR(Quad-Data-Rate). QDR should be plenty for everyone to chew on!:beer:

If i remember correctly, my mom had an 086 at 1.2 Hertz in 1983 or so :D

the information i've been hearing is leaked info on the following chips this spring and summer.
533 fsb chips to start in march / april time frame at 2.26 and 2.4
533 fsb chip at 2.53 in june/ july
also at march / april Rambus chips at PC1066 and then in the year 2003 they will introduce PC1200.
Rambus i have read may introduce chips for graphic cards with a new improved super high bandwidth technology. I just found this out last night!
At the rate Intel is producing chips i think the 5ghz will be out within 2 years then 20 ghz i would think would be before the year 2010.
The next step in front side bus i would only guess it would be a 8X pumped data transfer at either 100 or 133 equaling front side buses of 800 and 1000 mhz's.
The next die reduction should be in 2 years or less at .065 microns.
sooooooo ??? whats so special about it:eh?:
so far the speed doubled every 18 months.
2002=2ghz
2003=4ghz
2005=8ghz
2006=16ghz
2008=32ghz
2009=64ghz................
but i wonder if the 18months rate will work till 2010, you cant make it smaller and smaller. the 0.03micron technology is the smallest possible as far as i know. if you mak it smaller the electrons will just jump around from one channel to the next. the light pcs with photonic crystals will come out in 2010 or so i think. then we wont need a g-card or soundcard anymore. cpu is powerfull enought to do all the stuff together.
That 20ghz sounds sweet, but have you guys ever researched or read up on Quantum Computers. :D These thing are going to kick ass if and when they ever get them to work :). Basically is a computer that uses atoms to process info instaed of the type of processor we have now. Read this , it's cool.
This is an artical on it.

This is the definition of it. :)

Looks so cool. Imagine a computer that can think faster that humans. :D Man yould my games rock then. :D

man my head is spinning.........im dizzy..........games in 4d? heh
Until they have a use for a 20 gig processor, shouldnt they at least start to develope a few programs that can at least make use of the 2 gig ones that are out now? I mean, I can still run the same things on my 800 cellery that the guys on a 2 gig system can. And they still need to get us all hooked up to high speed internet. I am out in the sticks and still do not see high speed internet in the near future, not even in the next 5 years. Wasnt Windows XP supposed to bring us closer to being able to utilize the full potential of our comps? Instead it seems that it is utilizing the full potential of peaple patience instead lol. Maybe I am being a bit naive about the thought of a mega system like a 20 gig processor, but I just cant see the practicality in it yet. Shoot, if a 2 gig system costs 700-1500 dollars now to build, wouldnt a 20 gig system cost more like 7000-10000 grand to build? Just a few thoughts. Although I would love to own one myself lol :beer:

LOL a 20GHz system is prefect for getting 5000fps where the eye can see only about 20fps!

I just hope they don't devalue the MHz rating time after time. I can understand doing it once or twice if necessary, but if a 20 GHz computer is only as fast as a P3 running at 7 GHz, that's not nearly as impressive. (but still somewhat impressive...):D

Think about this: a 50% OC of that thing would be what? 30GHz? Bring it ON!!!!

The P7 core is the last x86 core Intel will or plans on designing. So the P4 is the lowest IPC processor that will ever happen. From this point on, MHz and IPC will both increase. Prescott will bring about several architectural changes that should increase average IPC and the jump to .09 um should increase clockspeed a lot as well. AMD has yet to make the jump to a deeper pipeline however, Hammer will have a 13-stage pipeline so it's comming.
