Welcome to my USB 2.0 vs USB 3.0 review.

Doing a few modifications to this thread.

As everyone is aware, USB 2.0 was pretty darn quick. A real maximum speed of about 35 to 37MB/s. USB 3.0 is a whole different story!

You guys like pictures and proof, so here we go...

I'm going to start off with a 150 gig Velo Raptor (WD1500HLFS), because I can't believe how fast USB 3.0 actually is...

I also tested the same drive on the ICH7 chip set for comparison.

Images 1 and 2 is USB 3.0

and images 3 and 4 is the same drive on SATA 2.

Any similarities? ah...yeah!

With USB 3.0, we now have a performance curve!

should be good, the best i have seen on a good USB 2 was just under 30MB, about 27-28MB at most.

i am at 1920 x 1080 and even have to slightly scroll for those pics, may want to shrink em a bit :)

So verdict would say USB 3 is x2 as fast as USB 2 from those pics.

Hmm... USB 2.0 has a limit of 35MB/s.. USB 3.0 is variable up to what ever you have that can push it!

150 gig V Raptor pushed it to 122MB/s 6.3 times faster!

Well, that's fine, really... That's 600MBytes/s theoretical bandwidth.

USB 2.0 has a 480 Mb/s max, with a 60MB/s theoretical bandwidth, However real world is 35MB/s...

USB 3.0 should hit 350MB/s if it follows the same path...
