hi people:
i got my rig running at 163fsb so far, and i know it can boot at 183 and higher, but i need a ram that can do 200......any idea?
I believe KingMax had some PC-166 Ram.
Although try finding some PC-166ram.
Probably a more realistic thing to look for is a mobo that will let you run the ram at a different speed then the cpu. If you could set the ram speed to FSB-PCI you should be good to go. In the last 1.5 years I have been building mostly AMD systems so I can't really help you in the selection of a mobo. In the past the boards I have messed with that had this feature were using VIA chipsets. Maybe try posting in the Intell mobo section.

i totally dig what you say, but the board i am currently using is simply too good for me to give it up:)
Tonicom is probably your best bet. I had a stick of tonicom and I couldn't max it out. I ran it at 155 FSB 222 timing. My board kept me from going any higher. The kingmax pc166 is probably ok to but if you can find the tonicom its better. The tonicom I had was rated from the factory 166 at cas2 or cas3 183. Ebay is probably the only place you will be able to find it.

Wow1 I've never heard of them. Don't bother with eBay right now. I checked, and they don't have anything. Good luck finding it if that's what you decide to do tainice.
Do you mind justifying that remark, Cooler666?

find a Hyundai / Hynix 256MB PC166, is it good?

Kingmax actually made PC-150 on the 'Tiny-BGA' process, while Tonicom made PC-166 on the 'SIM-BGA' process. I think the modules on some of the Tonicom I had were Hynix chips, so they're probably pretty trustworthy... I've never been able to max these chips out either... Highest FSB I've ever seen with em is 176 but it'd corrupt during the windows boot... I'd say you're pretty much equal between the two and you're going to have a lot easier time finding the kingmax.
Peace
John

ok, i have tried, my ram can do 185fsb (possiblely higher, but never try), it boots, but it will not get passed of window. anyway, i have found a tonicom on ebay, and i am the winning bidder now..so we will see. wish me luck, and please don't compete with me:D

Hi tainice,
the tonicom RAM you found looks very promising. I wish you luck!
I think if you won't be able to do 200 MHz FSB with this one, you will never be able to get that far. By the way, how do you want to manage your P3-S @1900 MHz??
Hope you'll win;)

WOWZERS, 200fsb? Do you think your PCI and AGP cards will work!?!?!?!?

Good luck! Only 8 hours to go. Just make sure that you're there for the last five minutes, and have an amount that you won't go over written down so you don't get ripped off. That's some seriously spankin' RAM. Too bad I use a DDR mobo. It'd be a blast OCing that thing.
Make sure to post back here if/when you get it.

As long as the chip is able to do it, and the ram is ok, then i can do it for sure. i will also upgrade my psu just in case. anyway, my board can handle it good, i got 1/5 or even 1/6 dividers equipped on my sweet XET-C;) so i am not worry about out of spec.

Congratulations tainice! How much did you pay for the RAM now in the end???
Regards

Update: Just found the auction. Hmm 71$ is an OK price I would say.
$71 for what a 256mb or 128?
I hope a 256 the 128 were $20 when they were in stores.

Good RAM is hard to find. To me, it'd be worth some extra money to be able to OC it to Helena and back.
Give us some results once you get the ram. That is going to bee one sweet overclock even if you don't get to 200.

i certainly will, just need to figure out how to post my result online, and my cam absolutely refures to working.

run your ram at cas3 and also do you have a 1/3 agp divider and 1/6 pci divider?

hehehe. guess what? i just recently recall that psu can be a deadly element when talking in terms of ocing. and i think i made a mistake of not checking my +5, 12 lines before i concluded on "bad-ram-so-no-200fsb":) you bet ja, my psu is pretty weak even at 163fsb, that is why i need to jack up my vcore so high before i made my jump to 170. maybe my kingmax has the potential of 200f, but becasue of my lack of power, so my chip is quittin on me.
I recently had to RMA a stick of 256mb Kingmax and the replacement stick has -5 marking on all the chips! 5ns chips!?!?! I am gonna test it to see how far I can push it.
I bought the Tonicom ram too. Thanks Silversinksam :) I agree with you, the seller is a class act. I hope I can reach 160+ fsb with it.

bud, my chip also got 5 all over itself:) my older kingmax pc150 256 that is. although it can reach super high fsb, but i cannot mix it out with other ram....what a shame.
3 of my older Kingmax sticks had -6 chips :(
So far I got the -5 stick to run at 166 cas 3, I've probably reached the limit of my cC0 700.

tainice - you said your sis is holding your Z-560's hostage.. lol, how do they sound, i am trying to decide if i want to buy them... lemme know, thanks
I still like my old Mushkin rev3. I have 3 sticks in a TUSL2-C running at 166fsb (ram @ default voltage). This is the limit of the mobo as it is the highest fsb selectable. I know the cpu is not the limit here, I use an old P3 500 for testing and at 166fsb that puts the cpu @ 833 100% stable at default voltage!(1.5v if memory serves) I know there is 1 gig waiting to be had from this chip. I wonder if a hacked bios would give me higher fsb options? Else I need a new mobo.

Mr. Chambers:
well, i want it becasue of its look..ok, so i am a very visual person:D it is a good buy, worth ur money, but i only got it for less than 2 days (not even got the chance to play games) then my sis took over. maybe you can ask my sis? :( ps, i got this feelin' that my audigy will soon forever gone from my puter...
Tainice: Have u received ur Tonicom ram yet? Pls keep us posted on your overclocking adventures with it :)

sorry to di-sa-point u guys, but it looks like i will have to wait at least 3 weeks or more before i can start to oc like crazy? why? ok, after i put my puter into my box, temp starts to sort like crazy, and my psu is completely depleted by my overwheleming fans and hds and stuff. so i order a antec 1030 and enermax 431, but they won't come until next week (or perhaps later), and my midterm is around next week...... anyway, after midterm, i will take some timeoff to visit my high buds in MN...so you see, no time whatsoever:eek:

nop, just 175w of +5v and 12vis combine isn't enough for my P-s and fans and stuff in the box.
