View Full Version : Clone HDD to SSD OS drive?

I'm considering upgrading my HTPC main OS drive (WD 640GB) to an SSD (likely the new intel 40GB one). The HTPC is Running windows 7 pro 64bit.

My problem is that it took months to set up & tweak the HTPC how I want it & I don't wanna start over again from square 1. Can I simply clone the current HDD & restore that image to the SSD? I believe the OS handles the drives differently so I'm afraid it wont restore properly.

Can anyone also recommend a free cloning program for W7-64?

Thanks in advance

It's possible but it will also not set your drive alignment up properly.

DriveImageXML is free.

So what would that mean to me? Is it a problem? Is there a workaround?

Ah, thanks I didn't think that worked for W7 for some reason...
