View Full Version : I got ripped
Was gone all weekend got home tonight and saw that there were 14 WU's on my main box that did not update automatically so I sent them in and 12 made it and I only got credit for 2 of them
Boy am i mad b/c I still haven't hit my 1000 WU mark thanks to the dropped ones. If you count the 30 or so completed sitting in cache on various machines then yes I have it but I cant upload them.
I'm considering switching to folding. This Berkeley bandwidth problem bites
deez reconsider! It may have just been bad luck!
Sorry to hear about your trouble. Just keep in mind that most of the projects out there have trouble of one kind or another, such as clients that crash fairly often etc. None of them are perfect and the teams that are running them are all doing the best they can.

The Folding Servers suck worse then Berkeley's. I have noticed over the last couple of days, that the servers haven't been dropping to many of my connections. You think loosing 10 work units is bad, I was loosing 20 a day. But I am still crunching, at full power now I might add. Berkeley will fix it, they always do. So wait a little longer, and upload at 6 in the morning before you go to work/school. That is what I do.
Ok...I woke up this morning and had 1001 units uploaded so I've recovered from my brief spell of insanity. Just got a bit aggravated last night. Folding looked kinda boring anyways.
Deez,
That's exactly what I did, I got so fed up that I stopped running SETI on my 2 rigs and started Folding. But after one day, after I couldn't run Folding anymore on my PC. It crashed everytime I launch it. I uninstalled it and went back to SETI. I think SETI is the most stable and has the widest support of any DC clients out there. I hope Berkeley will give it a higher network priority. If I continually run into upload/download problems, I'm just gonna ditch it.

The problem is not with the servers, yet with the pipe line. Either the students are eating to much of it. Or a mass mailing virus is spreading like herpies in middle school. Might be nimda but i doubt it.

Actually you mean the main problem is not with the servers. I understand the bandwidth issue b/c I had several on campus jobs while in college and college campuses can be very political places. So I can understand departments complaining about SETI using their bandwidth although there should have been some advance notice/warning from SETI.

I meant to ask this in the other thread. Looking at the list of corporate sponsors, I'm wondering why there is or ever would be any bandwidth problem at all. It's like a corporate Who's Who list.

That's Seti for you - they post a notice about a week after everybody knows something is wrong. But their track record is a lot better than Foolding so far, at least imo after playing hell with folding....

I don't know about other parts of the country... but here in Poedunk Nowhere, the internet has been screwed up anyways... ebay, yahoo, etc. often have horrible load times for me from home or work...
Perhaps, this adds to the SETI server issues, but also keeps it interesting...

Unfortunately no ISP's on that list. Megapath or Linkline or somebody like that would be a nice addition.
Morpheus....its probably conjestion in your area. More people are getting online every day
