Ok guys, I recently sold all of my xbox 360 games to move to PC gaming, including MW2.
Now, I really don't want to pay £40 for a game that I already had, and I don't have that money around at the moment anyway... is there a cheaper place to DL it than steam? or can I just buy a serial key for it? and download a torrent for the game? I know this stuff is frowned upon here, but it doesn't come under illegal/cracks/warez does it?
So any ideas? and obviously, if I buy a serial key, I want it to work on steam :)
Thanks in advance guys :)

Want it to work on Steam then get it on Steam. I'm pretty sure there is no legal service to buy just a key, so yea, don't talk about torrenting the software.
Don't worry though, MW2 for PC is full of hackers.

Wow unneeded sentence, considering I just explained my situation, and you go off topic in a negative way..

Hahaha... You're funny. :)
Ok guys, I recently sold all of my xbox 360 games to move to PC gaming, including MW2.
There's your FIRST mistake... You sold the CONSOLE VERSION of the game that screwed PC gamers... so that you could buy it on PC?
Tsk... Tsk...

YES. It does.
Why would you sell the game on the platform it was designed for in order to buy it on the one that it wasn't?
Maybe you needed the cash... Ok... Fine. Use the cash to buy Bad Company 2.
Or... if you absolutely must... buy MW2.
If you want to get it cheap just order it from France... or better yet... the US. PC games aren't region locked or have any PAL/NTSC restrictions, so you can get it from amazon or whoever has it cheapest and just have it flown over for a fraction of what you would pay in pounds.

I swapped for the PC version, for easier gameplay recording, better graphics, no subscription fees, and more of my friends play on pc...

Still illegal, not just frowned upon.

Ya, but I need it now, for my youtube channel, I was challenged by a machinima director, on some mw2 videos..
Then I think you know the answer to your question.
As far as your original post, I understand completely. It's easy for people on forums to get caught up in finding fault with somebody else, then bash them or their ideas because it brings attention to themselves. I never did understand why some people are so distraught over trivial things like a game, when so many more important and impacting travesties are happening elsewhere on a daily basis.
The fact is there are games where you can do what you suggested, and do so legally. Unfortunately, Steam games are tied to your Steam login, so no such luck there.
Pay no attention to the kiddos in the peanut isle who don't offer informative, mature, or helpful responses. Leave the real talk for the big kids here.

Here's the deal:
If you need it now... BUY IT now.
If you can't afford it now... then you don't NEED IT now.
That's it.
There's no LOOPHOLE.
Certainly no LEGAL loophole. Not just because some dude on Youtube challenged you.

Getting back on topic from ^
They have some nice deals on Steam sometimes where you can get it for like 15 quid or so.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0021AETOU/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_t2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=15P14TMD74MMTGRP5RXM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294
30 quid not 40 quid.
Apart from that there's no way to get it.
No talk about bad stuff here.

This is hilarious. Guy is asking the best way to cheaply pirate the game, and everyone jumps on me because I stated an opinion of the game, which happens to be true.

Uhh, who?
Not "who"... "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Ric Flair!
...beat up by his 4th (count 'em: FOURTH) wife, and his little girl has to call the cops to bail him out!
Slightly off topic... but I just saw the opportunity. :D
E-Penis... E-Pirate... everything that can be said HAS been said.
I already recommended Amazon myself. If you don't want to pay pounds and you need it fast... order from France.
When I lived in Paris I ordered stuff from Amazon.uk and it never took more than two days for me to get the stuff. (F.E.A.R.... Warcraft 3... The Divine Comedy... and tons of DVDs.)
If you'd ordered yesterday then you'd have the game tomorrow. And you would've only had to pay Euros instead of pounds.
That's as cheap as you're going to get.
If you need a key, ebay is your best source. There are plenty of legitimate dealers who sell keys-only that have had their DVD broken for whatever reason and returned to stores.

On a bit of a side note to the sale thing. i wouldnt expect much... I have intently watched steam for a cheap copy of MW1 after mw2 came out and i have yet to see it drop from it's 40$ pricepoint. ok excuse me i just checked and it was finally brought down to 30$, alas still no steam deal. under 20$ and i wouldnt mind having it....as apparently it's the last "real" MW game for pc.
I hate to troll but there's some serious rage going on here. It's one thing to answer the guys question but to start on overall flame fest doesn't really help anything.

Get a key off ebay and then activate it on your steam account. Make sure it's a legit key of course but checking his feedback and stuff.
I'm pleased to see that no-one has suggested warez/cracks/etc in this thread. Pirating software, by whatever means, is illegal and will not be discussed on this forum. I will personally ban the first person who goes there. -- David

As for sales, I don't expect MW2 will really drop in price. MW1 barely dropped below $35 up to the release of MW2.

Be extremely careful of the keys you find on ebay. I have heard that one of their methods is to go buy the game, snag the key, and return it. Then when someone goes to buy the disc, and legitimately activate it, the key is banned, and the only person that actually has any rights to the key are the guy that actually bought the disc to play the game. This was supposedly a very common method of ebay pirates acquiring keys, which is why they started putting them on a card inside the box. MS discs are usually even kept under lock and key in a lot of places for the same reason.

+1
This is the massive problem with re-sale when there's DRM or some kind of protection around.
If you do buy it from ebay make sure it lists that it's not banned, it hasn't been over activated and it will work if you enter it into steam (the activate a product on steam supports COD4 :))
If you do buy it over ebay then often the people selling them have just used a keygen so you might get banned after a couple of weeks anyway.
(I wasn't talking about warez or anything! Just a caution into the bad people who do )

i'm going to make your fantasy a reality by jumping on this. theres a few things that your mis leading about.
#1 is that everything on bit torrent is illegal. it not. plain and simple.
you can complain all you want about it. not everything is illegal on bit torent.
#2 the whole CD key "issue" its not too far out of his way to think that there may be a possible way to buy a legitimate cd key completely legal. some companies do it. what do you think happens when you buy M$ office through the student steal, i mean seriously office ultimate for $60 online. you can pay extra to get a cd but they give you the cd key in an e-mail. same thing when your a student and you get things for cheap or free over MSDNAA.
how you get the software is up to you. you could torrent the office stuff after you got the key, you could use their downloader, you could use some one elses DVDs if you wanted, what matters is whos cd k ey is being put in and he was asking for legitimate sources for legal keys
you dont always have to be a student to get these things, there are other means, this is an example. i dont see it too far out of spec to think that a game company might provide product and cd keys for purchace by them selves for a little bit less than buying the game it self at a store and then downloading and/or installing it by your own means. i think in a sence this is what Blizzard does for WOW. cant say for sure but if your using a 10 free thing over the net and you decide to subscribe where do you think your product key is bound to? thats not too far out of place at the same time.
back on topic.
why the hell would you want to play MW2 any way after they made multiplayer a eunuch?
i really wouldnt care what some director on you boob would say about making a video either, really this is the internets.
if you want it hard core amazon is a good place to get it regardless of country. does gogamer.com have it and do they ship international? they have alot of UK games any way
I'm bad!
I deleted your post the first time you posted this, being the nice person I am.
The fact you reposted it obviously means you want a 3-day, so, you have one.
Hopefully no-one else feels the need to be as idiotic.

The guys jumps ship (console) and joins our team (pc gaming)...give him a break. Post something helpful...some of the people who reply on here are so quick to be snobs and shoot you down, thats the main reason I dont hang out here like I used to. Mostly people are extremly helpful but its takes just a few boneheads shooting you down when you ask for help to spoil it here.

I don't see how this thread spun out of control. No where in the OP's post do I see anything about pirating or illegally obtaining the game. The guy mentioned the word's "buy" and "pay" multiple time, he's just looking for the cheapest alternative.
As far as I know, the game requires Steam, so I believe any key you get, regardless of where you get it from, would be able to be registered to a Steam account, as long as it hasn't been used before :)

Ok too many people here to respond to. I'll simply say a couple things and hop out before it gets anymore crowded. To the ones saying that because he is paying money it makes it legal just haven't thought this through.
Just because I pay money for Sallys stolen clothes, doesn't mean Sallys stolen clothes are now not illegally obtained.
Just because I pay for a membership to a site that has pirated software, doesn't mean it's not pirated anymore.
Rainless go make your own thread and rant about how bad all games made today are. STOP OVERFLOWING INTO OTHER THREADS. ANSWER THE DAMN QUESTION. BUY THE GAME. DON'T PIRATE. DONE.
