ATI 5870 seems to be a better choice.

Gtx 470 are coming out @ 350$ newegg buy this one :) 12 april
Or a 5850 that is 5-10% Less powerfull than 470. but cost around 280

I guess the HD5850 would be it's equivalent, both high end single GPU cards. They perform about the same, with the HD5850 a little ahead. But, the HD5850 costs less, has DX11, less power consumption, and less heat. Personally, I would go ATI.

Or wait for the GTX 470, but the GTX 480/470 are power consuming heat monsters...

Not sure about XFX, some guy said he had to flash an XFX card a few days ago to get fan speed control. I wouldn't let the brand get in the way of a good deal though. XFX have been around for long enough. I know there are a few other companies out there that have a really good customer support/RMA support.

5850 is a great choice!

I haven't had a problem with XFX. I killed my last video card trying to do a volt mod, and they actually replaced it :D

5850 varies between 10-50% more powerful than the 285...

a 285 alternative might be more like a 5830 which according to newgg is about $150 bucks cheaper.

Of course you could save 10-15 bucks over the 5830 and grab a used 285. those have been going for ~$225 last I looked.

A 4890 is also very competitive with a 285 and can be found for $150 bucks used. The 5850 is a TERRIFIC card, however.

I just got a 4890 TOP (factory overclock) for $125. Real hard to find a 285 for that :D
Admittedly it was $150 to non-benching team members.

Want cheaper prices? Hit the link in my sig :D

Oh yeah Bob.. that was sweet deal you got. I love my EAH4890 :)

I dont use it often.. only install it when I want to game for a while. other than that I have been sticking to IGPs/low power cards for energy conservation :)
