I just bought a new note book for my self. And I will be getting rid of my desktop, so I tryed to get the most performance laptop I could buy for my money. So here is what I got.
2700T
1.13 Ghz PIIIm
256 MB RAM (plus I ordered another 256)
30 GIG HD
10/100
56k DUH
8x DVD
CDRW (not sure of the speed but I think its atleast 8x)
Radeon Mobility with 16mb of ram (not sure if is DDR of not) upgradeable to 32
15" TFT screen.
And thats about it. all for 1300 bux, what do you guys think? good deal?

In my opinion Compaq still makes some of the worst computers ever sold.
Most of the Compaqs I have worked on were very poorly designed and overheated frequently.
There have been a few people that have had good luck with them. I hope you are one of the lucky ones.
Edit: I did not answer your question, I just ranted.
$1300 is a great price for a laptop with a 1GHz or higher processor. That is it is good if it continues to work for longer than a few months.
yeah thats been my opinion of there desktops (still is) but there are a few guys at work who have these and they have not had one problem, but we have about 12 dells all of which have had to have there motherboard replaced and 3 of them new keyboards and two screens that just died. (they had zero physical damage)
so thats why I whent with the compaq. Also they have JBL pro audio speakers that sound better than any laptop I have ever heard (which includes dells, ibms, sonys, and costom made ones)

I have to agree. I used to do some RMA's on them and we had more of those go back than Any.
Sony I think makes the only laptop I would buy I would buy a Dell, Only because I know theyre RMA and how to get stuff replaced. but I think Sony makes a good product.
As far as price I think its good. But I always want more. I can't seem to find a laptop with enough power (At least for a decent price) I think your deal was ok.

That is odd. I work on Dell Latitudes and what I have seen is a high failure rate on the hard drives(IBM Travelstars), but the rest of them are fairly solid performers. Do you know how old the Dells are or what model they are?
The only Compaqs I can say any good about are the Proliant servers. I have had several people bring me Compaq laptops that needed new motherboards.
I never trust branded computers except for maybe Dell. If it came down to labtops I would either pick Dell as my first choice or Toshiba as the second one.
My two cents.
