Inspiron 8500 going in and out of battery mode when plugged in

I really want to get this fixed so I can keep this oldie but goodie, but this is really getting on my nerves. As i am surfing on this lappie it will randomly shift in and out of battary powered mode when plugged in. It is extrermely annoying because the screen will dim for a second and than go back.

How to I test to make sure it isn't the power supply before i replace the plugin.

It has something to do with the power supply because when running off the battery it doesn't do it anymore

a quick fix is to just set the screen brightness to full on both dc and ac power, look in power options.
could you burrow another power brick to test it?

I had similar issues with my old laptop. I discovered the little AC port on the back had the soldering broken off on the mobo (probably caused from the AC cord bending and moving) so the connection was intermittent and would only stay on if it was in the exact place.

took the laptop apart and added some solder...worked for a while, but then i had to order that little piece.
