View Full Version : dsl modem getting "flooded"
I had a torrent last night that hit 6mbit/s (on a 20mbit connection, 8mbit speedtest result to speedtest.net server). I was in bed at the time, but it completely knocked out web browsing. I could ping webpages just fine, but they wouldn't load - no error message, just "done", with a blank page. Couldn't even get into my modem webpage setup. A restart fixed this, but this also happened when I was downloading via HTTP (3 files at a time) which reached 16mb/s, on another brand of modem. I could understand with the torrent, if my modem can't handle the number of connections, but what's happening with it - am I downloading too fast for modems to handle?

Two questions:
Do you have your 20Mb/s connect from a cable company?
If yes to the question above, is your cable modem DOCSIS 3.0 certified?
Sorry, my mistake.

The post subject clearly states "DSL" :)
@OP: Do you have a modem/router combo device, or do you have a separate router behind a modem? If you've got a combo modem/router, they're usually pretty crappy hardware, and probably can't handle the number of connections your torrent client is making.

power cycle the modem/router and right-click->repair on your connection should resolve it

Looks like the old Netscape 4x bug, where it randomly just says "Done".
But Firefox seems to do this sometimes. :(
