View Full Version : VIA+Microsoft+RAID=Bad performance? Get this!
Found the link to this file and thought I would share. Is supposed to increase burst rate throughput on IDE RAID systems that run Microsoft Windows (all versions) and have a VIA chipset motherboard (all VIA chipsetes). Works with manufacturers of the following RAID controller chipsets: Adaptec, Acard, Highpoint and Promise.
Will be right back with my results after installing and rebooting.

Just another PATCH for VIA's chipsets huh??....
I love my outdated BX...
Let us know if it makes a difference....
Looks to be so.
Sandra score on WinXP before patch on Asus A7M266-D with Promise FastTrak100 TX2 and 2 X 30GB Maxtor ATA100 7200RPM drives : 31,326.
Sandra score after patch: 39,261.
Not bad. I did still get better scores with Win2K and the same drives on a HPT370 controller. The bus was at 166MHz though and this one is only at 150MHz, so that probably has something to do with it.
Test was run with a 16K stripe size with my controller as well. Larger stripes may get you a better score.
HDTach 2.61 gave me an average of 61,785.2kps. 78583kps max and 6345kps min.
What a difference. This should be notified more :p

Only 1 person has downloaded this and I don't know how many "My RAID sucks" threads I've seen over the past month.
If you don't get this, don't complain...otherwise this a bump for those that have missed it.

I'm gonna try it. I have an hour left on some downloads, so I'm going to finish those, clean my HD up a little, then reboot. Sandra once, then install patch, reboot, and try agian.
BTW, thanks for posting this! I hope it helps a little.

Very true. There was alot of thread concerning what was wrong with their Raid setup that their performance was very bad and not getting their moneys worth for it.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!
I've heard that Sandra's not the best bench for a raid setup, but I was getting awfull tired of just beating out a single drive with my KT7A-R and my IBM GXP's.
Again, Thanks.

.... a little problem.
Uhhh, before the patch, my Sandra 2001.5.8.11 score under WinXP, RAID-0 w/ 16k stripe size, 133FSB, Via 4-in-1 4.37 drivers, latest Promise controller drivers:
Before: 3619
After: 3601
That is not a misprint. It took >15 minutes to do the benchmark each time. I never had this problem in Win2k... BIOS settings should all be optimal...
My computer boots in a matter of seconds, I am ALWAYS the first person into a game of Counter-strike, and everything has just felt incredibly fast lately. The only problem I have noticed is when I'm editing video files, things get way bogged down.
Can anyone shed some light on these insanely low benchmarks???
Get HDTach 2.61, it's shareware, and run a bench with it and post your score. You can get it at Download.com (www.download.com).
I've had problems with Sandra and the disk bench numerous times and it's usually a problem with Sandra itself.
Woohoo! My Sandra bench went from 32219 to 38843! This download is going onto a cd so I don't lose it.
One more time...Thanks.
Bump again for those that complain about RAID performance. I know there are more than this.
Just noticed that this was on the front page here at Overclockers.com as well. Seems it's recommended as it increased benchmarks in the tests run with it installed.
Get it now while it's here!

Wow, this is great news considering my lackluster raid performance in XP. Now to see if it really helps for me!

Holy Crap!!!!! Mine went to 44048 from 29000. And thats not even overclocked. This is a must get file.
I installed this and the performance only went from about 27000 to about 28200. How are the others getting such performance increases (Running two 40 gig D740X Maxtor drives). Does playing with PCI latency have any affects on RAID 0 performance?

Yes. This patch actually deals with PCI latency. Might want to try playing around with yours to see what kind of results you get.
