first off i put this in the hardware forum cause the piece i am missing is hardware i think.

i got a 92mm panaflow fan. On the last fan i got, there were red black and yellow wires all attached to this nifty little white device that i plugged into the thing that says "cpu fan" on my mobo. On this fan, there are only black and red wires and they all have open ends on them. no white thing came attached. Where do i get a white thing to plug it into my mobo? did this thing simply come not installed correctly and i should rma it?

are you saying that your wires are bare? if so, it sounds to me like your fan was intented to be used in a baybus-type setup (where you can control fans on/off by a switch on the front of your case) or something similar. there may be a way to hook it to a 3-pin connection but i don't know. it may be best to send it back and tell them you didn't realize you needed a fan with a 3-pin connection (and didn't think to look upon ordering :))

good luck

You need the adapter to use from the wire to plug in the motherboard unless you intend to do something crazy like wrap the wires on the pins of the motherboard.

If you have an old stock fan lying around snip the wires of the fan and connect those wires with these wires and plug it in.

A more permanent solution would be to take a sharp xacto knife, and (when your system is off or unplugged) but into the yellow and one of the black wires on the back of a molex connector. Cut into the insulation along the wire, about an inch in length. This will let you expose the wire without actually cutting the wire in half...make sense?

Anyway, get the wires exposed and solder black to black and yellow to red on the fan. Then seal everything back up with electrical tape or shrink tubing. That'll give you 12v to your fan and you didn't lose the molex.

Ofcourse, the same idea would work with a 3-4pin adapter for a fan if you have a spare or ordered one. Oh, btw that third wire is for the rpm sensor so you mb can monitor it. Its not necessary unless you wish to monitor it.
