First tell us about your system, we know you have a 1600 but what mobo, PSU, HSF etc, etc do you have? All of these items will matter in your OC quest.

What motherboard are you running? Some have absolutely no OC options.

Now that we got all that out of the way... Get into your bios (on startup hit delet button) navigate your way to Frequency/Voltage Controll or similar, start raising your Front Side Bus (default is 133). Start with say 137, restart see if system is stable. If yes up the FSB some more. When it becomes unstable you can up your VCORE to 1.85 (+ .01) and raise the VDIMM to say 2.7 or 2.8. I would be very careful with your temps though, I know nothing about your HSF. Keep temps below 50C and you will be OK. Raising the voltage is what creates the heat, so be watchful. Report back with results.

what heastsink/fan do you have? i think you may have trouble getting it as high as you want, but you may get lucky and have a good overclocking chip. my 1600+ got up to the speed of a 1900+ (1600Mhz) and was unstable, so i backed it down.

Welcome to the forums and good luck! Post ur results

Buy a decent HSF before you attempt to overclock maybe a Thermaright SK6 or a Alpha Pal 8045. Read through the Heatsink performance ranking (http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/) on this forums front page for ideas.

I would not attempt to overclock until you know temp is under control.

While your waiting for a high quality HSF to arrive read these (http://www.overclockers.com/topiclist/index04.asp#) then you will know how to safely overclock your XP1600+.
