View Full Version : Wierd HD tune results w/ WD green
Hey all got wierd results with my WD green 808gb hdd. i have never seen such "jumpy" results before ,and on the net similar drives had much more steady graphs. is this a problem. ? is there a solution? I have also noticed that ive not been able to multi-task as much with this drive...
btw if you caouldn't tell im using HDtune to test it lol.

if it's your primary OS drive, it's possible background processes were accessing the drive while you were running the benchmark. I'd recommend the Green series only as storage drives and not OS drives if performance is a requirement.
That said, I do use a single 1.5TB for my Windows Home Server and it's ok for that purpose since it's not really accessed all that much.

If this is your boot drive, then something is accessing the HD during those drops. Since the drive is slower, multitasking will be a bit slower since when it has to access data on the drive, it takes longer for it to move to a different location.
Green drives tend to be good for storage, but not as good for OS drives.
Phew lol thanks guys., I needed a quick fix so i can continue with work. What drive should i get as my OS main. an ssd?

Depends on your needs. SSD is great but expensive compared to disk platter drives. Figure out how much you have to spend, and how much space you would need. For a disk platter drive, you can go with the WD Velociraptor or Blacks, they are good drives. SSD gets a bit more complicated so we can discuss if you're still interested afterwards.
Ill stick with this for now (need money lol)... as i really dont need 100000 terabytes tranfer rate. and as long as my computer runs games well (which it most certainly does) im cool. thanks A bunch though!
