how good is the corsair H50 compared to air cooling? is it worth the price? is there much difference in temps compared to air cooling?

I have the Akasa Nero AK-967 air cooler at the moment and it runs around 50c IDLE and 80c Prime95 LOAD.

Check out our awesome Front Page article written by one of our own, Hokiealumnus.

You can also see the "similar threads" section below as this topic has been discussed plenty of times and should have the information you are looking for!

Short answer though - for best results it needs fresh air and a push pull config. Its about as good as the high end air coolers that some can be had for less cost.

You could also look at my more recent Venomous X review that compares the H50 directly to a top end air solution.

EarthDog is dead on with his short answer though. :)

oh right, thanks for the replies!

Another thing, as normal high end water cooling systems require to be "topped up" now and then due to water evaporating, how come this doesn't apply to the H50? does the water not evaporate eventually due to the heat in the H50?

Well, there's the crux. Corsair claims the H50 has ultra-low-evaporation tubing. Judging by the stiffness, there is probably something to that claim. However, they've only been on the market a relatively short time. We don't know the evaporation rate. There isn't much fluid in those things. Even at a very slow rate, how long will it last? We just don't know. That you cannot refill it is definitely something to keep in mind, but only in the very back. It'll last through the warranty period (two years), or that would be shorter. Most people replace their cooling solution more often than that anyway, but FWIW.
