View Full Version : How come my orange "working" LED doesn't ever blink when the computer is working?

You how there are two LEDs on the front of your case. One shows that it is on, and the other shows if the computer is doing something or not. Well my later one is always lit. On some of my older computers, that LED would be blinking whenever the hard drive is doing any work. Anyone know how I can make this start happening again?
You sure you don't have the cables switched?

If they're not backwards as KaHNZa suggests, also check to see if the plug needs to be flipped. I'd recheck the pin layout diagram, too.
I would also have to agree that the pin is not in correctly (Not in the right spot or not in the right position).

LED's do have a lifespan, it may have just burned out. In that case, just drop by Radio Shack and pick up a similar LED. Usually the output for LED's on motherboards are about 2v.
Chotto matte, while you are at it, you should add a couple of superbright LEDs!
my hdd led stays on all the time :( and ive tried switching the cables but it does nothing. i think its just my crappy mobo

I have an ASUS A7A266 mobo and I know that I hooked all the little connections up right since I checked it like five times when I installed it. The led hasn't gone out since it's still nice and bright, and it's less than 1 year old. I don't get it. I want it to blink but it just won't :(

I know this has probably been said... but I didn't see a for sure answer on it... so... I'll say it anyway :D
I was having the same problem with my asus P3B-F... turns out that the letters on the plug should be facing the bottom of the case on the top row of pins and facing upwards on the bottom row of pins... also after much confusion on my behalf... the hd access led was on the row of pins below the double row of pins (the double row being the power, reset, etc.) Just my $0.02;)
I have an a7a266 and mine works fine. The positive pin is closest to the floppy and the negative pin is near the bottom end of the motherboard.
