Forgive me if it's been covered.

Delete the thread and smack me PLEASE!!!

I have 6gb ram and vm player is asking for the amount of ram I want to give it.

should I do all 6? Will it make my W7 and other apps screw up?

Any other tips you guys can give me?

4300 MB of RAM.

And make sure it's VMWare Player version 3.0.0 (build-203739).

And of course it's been covered before. But that didn't keep me from asking the same question, nor from ChasR from answering. :)

It can't be done: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6454587&postcount=79

So get 3.0.0 here: http://www.neowin.net/news/vmware-player-300

ok wtf am I doing wrong?

I can't log into my ubuntu vm :(

it's asking for pw for my pc from windows and it won't accept anything I give it.

nevermind for some reason it wouldn't accep the number keys above the main keyboard but would accept the 10 key once I enabled numlocks..

Ok it's apparent I suck at linux because I'm getting absolutely nowhere with creating a folder and getting fah installed and set up.

Anyone a quick tut on ubuntu 9.10 and how to get the -bigadv's rocking out?

that is my desktop with the filedisk folder up and the FOLD folder.

ALSO:

I don't like how I am using 5.7gb of my 6gb ram even when I don't have the Player running :(

Looks like you're close. You need to do the following things and you should be able to run fah:

Go to Applicatons->Accessories->Terminal
type "cd Downloads/FOLD"
type "tar xzvf FAH6.29-Linux.tgz" (you are missing a file)
type "sudo chmod +x fah6", it will ask you for your login password
type "sudo chmod +x mpich" (i think that's what it's called, just hit m then tab, Linux will autofill the file name)

Should be ready to rumble then.

As far as file organization goes, running folding from the Download directory is poor form. You can right click on the .tgz file and open with archive manager, extract it to any directory in the home/user_name directory, I suggest FOLD or FAH or something like that. After extraction, you can right click on the fah6 and mpich files and select properties, permissions and check the allow execution box. After you've done that, right click on the FAH folder and select sharing options, create share and samba will be installed (default workgroup=workgroup). After samba installs, check the other two boxex in the create share window.

(default workgroup=workgroup).

This is correct even though the ubuntu 9.10 documentation says its mshome.

Ok I'll see if I can get it up and running again. I uninstalled it because it was ticking me off. vmplayer wasn't even up and running and was still jacking my ram at 5.5 combined with windows :(

That doesn't sound right. How can a program use RAM when it's not even running?

And don't give up. If I can get this running, it can't be that hard. ;)

yeah there was nothing running in the task manager for vm at all and I was still pegged at 5.5gb of ram usage my normal 1.5-2.2 for W7 and everything I have running and then that vm player
