I have a Creative X-Fi and about a seven year old sony receiver that can do dts and dolby digital. My question is, how do I get it to configure for 5.1 and work? All I get is PCM 2 channel.
This is using the console and windows speaker configuration.

Your Xfi would need to support DD Live or the DTS equivalent, otherwise you will only get 5.1 from files encoded in DD or DTS as the signal will just be passed through to the reciever then.
PCM 2 channel is the max you can have without DD Live or DTS. My Auzentech X-fi forte has options to enable DD Live or DTS Connect when i right click it's sound manager option in the notification icon's area next to the clock in windows. i'm sure there are also other spots in the sound card's properties also.
The answer is no.
None of the X-Fi's support anything beyond PCM 2Chnl
I saw one X-Fi that was $150 with Optical In/Out so that might work but anything beyond that won't.
Kind of ****es me off considering I spent $90 on mine back in 2007.
