i want to try to use ahci to see if i gain anything but, i'm not sure if i will lose any data on either drive..does anyone have any advice..thanks..os already installed

You won't lose any data. Worst case Windows will BSOD. You can go back and switch to IDE w/ no ill effects.

But to be safe you should always do a backup before messing around too much.
