they are equal to, if not a tiny tiny bit less then a proper barb and clamp.

basically it will be = in performance and safety (installed correctly of course) so it comes down to looks and budget.
 
Not at all. They cost more and look great. They also are so wide using 3/4"" OD tubing that at times you have to use 45 degree fittings if the part your colling holes are too close.

I have built/rebuilt 7 times now. I use 1/2 ID 3/4 OD tubing, barbs and hose clamps. I'm a very careful builder. Never ever had a leak with them. There is no difference between the two types. Do it right, they don't leak. You want pretty fitting or just do it. I'm a do it guy. I have no bling.
