I have two GTX 275s in SLi, which as you know are DirectX10 compatible. Should I sell them and buy one 5870 for DirectX 11? Would I notice a performance hit in my gaming?

Thanks,
Sam

I would get the 5870. it has dx11 and is just a bit edged out by the 2 275's but not by much. you will notice maybe 3-5 fps drop but nothing u would notice

275's beat out 5870 in gaming, but a single 5870 will run nearly anything under the sun.

So it sounds like ill just stick with the 275s rather than go through the trouble of selling them and buying a new card. The difference between DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 isnt that much im assuming? I know DX9 to DX10 was a pretty big jump.

Not too much, no...but every week a new DX11 game comes out. Your 275's wont be worth more than they are now. ;)

If you find the DirectX 9 to 10 a big jump, then you'll love DirectX 11 I think.. You could just put them online and see what people offer, if it's reasonable then I'd sell them for a 5870 in a heartbeat. Of course taking all other factors into account like power consumption, technology, overclockability and such.

Good point. One last question, I soon plan to upgrade to a 24" 1920x1200 monitor. From what I understand SLi shines at these higher resolutions. Taking that into account, should I still sell the 275s for the 5870?

1920x1200 is nothing for a 5870, check out some reviews (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADBR_enUS316US316&q=5870+reviews) on it bro!!!

Wow nevermind! Im suprised nVidia cards hold a candle to ATi looking at the amount of stream processors and such. Yet in real world performance and testing its difference.

You cannot compare NV SP's to ATI's. They are completely different...in what they do. The information is above my head, but something to the affect that the NV SP's are complex (can do more than one thing), while only maybe 1 of 5 of ATI's are.

yeah. its kinda like comparing cars. you can have 2 cars that are both hitting 5000 RPM's but will not act the same. (obviously both can't be the same for this example to work)

you could sell them but IMO i would go with a 470 or 480gtx for DX11. some people will think im nuts cause of how much heat and power the suck BUT they perform really really well under heavy tessellation and other DX11 tasks compared to the 5870

i know that this is just a benchmark BUT once games start to use DX11 more and more in their games. i think having the extra power the 470 and 480 has would help out if you really want DX11 visuals
