I'm just looking for people that succeeded in unlocking their AMD XP and if possible please tell me what method you use. I watched the Tom's Hardware video and it looks quite simple. Any feedback, advice and or ideas would be very appreciated.
Thanks

Also, what do you think is the best method, cuz Tom's Hardware one looks easy but I've heard about defogger kits etc. etc.
Dont' know what I sould use

AMD XP's or tbird/duron's?

I unlock a Duron with a toothpic , a Circuit writer (conductive ink pen) and a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.

It was supper easy I just dipped the toothpic in a small dab of ink and dabbed it on each bridge very very easy unlike the XP.

I got a t-bird 1000 and an xp 1600+ at the same time a few months ago. I unlocked the t-bird with conductive paint applied with the tip of a pin. I decided not to unlock the xp, but now I regret that decision. So I just ordered some arctic silver 3 and a millenium glaciator 2. When those arrive, I think I'll attempt to unlock it.

I've got superglue and clear nail polish. I think with the nail polish it will be easier to correct mistakes with acetone. I'll use a straight razor as a guide for applying the paint. Also have a magnifying glass, foam pad, grounding strap, tape, and complete determination.

I'm hoping to hit 11x150= 1650 Mhz and still have load temps close to 40 one way or the other. I'll be using a 60cfm 92mm fan with adapter and duct for the glaciator. I might also do a volt mod to my motherboard in the next week or two...

i unlocked my xp with a yellow crayon to fill the pits (easy to see when you have enough) and rear window deffoger paint to close the bridges. took about 15 minutes and i bet i could do it again in 5. worked on the first attempt and all multi's are functional. think the copper paint was about $5 and i swiped the yellow crayon from my daughter *L* easier than changing multi's on my slot a by soldering that's for sure!

Used the same method as in Tom's video and it worked great.
Just take your time and let the paint dry before starting the next bridge.:D

I've used both the "superglue" method as well as fingernail polish and the rear window defogger repair kit using celophane tape to mask the pits and bridges.

I had better luck with the fingernail polish. I think that it's a little bit more forgiving, although others swear by the glue.

Whichever method you chose, take your time, get a bright light and you'll need a magnifying glass.

Good Luck!

i did mine the day i got it. i can get all multi's except the default one(10.5)
i used silicone thermal grease to fill the gaps and defogger repair paint to close the bridges. being that this system is goin fine at 1'6@default voltage, i dont think even with fsb going up when i get my pc2400 il need a measly 10.5 with this little gem.
This it the most intracate thing ive ever done like that, and i got it on the 1st try:)
i enjoyed it and cant wait to start getting into hardcore modding.

All the above ways of unlocking are barbaric. Use regular silicone themal grease to fill the pits and CIRCUIT WORKS SILVER CONDUCTIVE GREASE to bridge the L1's. Sheesh, no one likes to do things the EASY way. I did 2 cpu's in 5 minutes flat. And, the stuff never dries, is totally reversable and can be wiped off with a tissue.

WOW Thanks for all the replies I'm gonna do it up this weekend it should go smoothly just one more question though fellas.

Do i bridge all the L1 contacts? or just the first?
in the Tom's Hardware vid it just shows one, but i'm guessing i need to bridge them all

OOOO
- - - -
OOOO

What i mean is do i conect the dots vertically, all of them? over the pits? Or just the first set?

All of them over the pits,Making sure that the sides do not touch.
You should have five seperate lines.....Good luck

And if they touch at all then take it off and do it again. I used 5 minute 2 part epoxy and defogger paint. Oh and keep telling yourself they really are'nt that small.

Has anyone had any experience with using the conductive pad from the back of the lcd in a cell phone?

I've seen some web sites that describe this method and have heard it is a popular way to unlock in Asia.

anyone?

Read an article on it as well but have not heard any more from anyone or have I chatted with anyone that has done it. On the other hand I have heard no one say it won't.
