i played an online car racing game back in the day.. it lasted about a year or less and failed due to being just really really lame.. and you could purchase upgrades etc and drive dirt tracks and had 1/4 mile races etc

Bwa? Need for speed shift was awesome, dragon age, medal of honor, many many of the sports games from the old school console days till now.

I hate ea too but I will give credit where credit is due.

SHIFT? SHIFT? You mean that fail of a game, that dropped to around 15-30 fps even on low settings, with a decent graphics card, because of a glitch that they took ages to patch? that is, if they have even patched it :o

Yes they patched it, works great they patched, I'd say, about 3 months ago? something I can't remember but It was an issue that effected ati cards, sadly my 8800gt didn't run it the greatest but when I adjusted settings properly it was a very fun game.

Not sure how you can call it fail of a game. sure it had issues technical wise but the gameplay to me is very fun

also they are behind burnout paradise which was also a very fun game.

I call it a fail of a game because I paid £40 for it and couldn't run it, because of the FPS on my 4850 :/

What, I ran it fine on my old rig with a 4850 at 1080p, I had the 512mb version too, at lower overclocks than your card...

I was not impressed with NFS: Shift.

The best racing game I have played so far has been ToCA Race Driver 3.

I am playing with a G27 wheel and NFS: Shift feels clunky.

Any game produced by a 200lb man wearing a medium sized canary yellow Polo shirt, (Marc De Vellis) is not something I will ever play.

SHIFT would have been surprisingly good, had the physics not emulated a Power Wheels dump truck. You know things are going wrong when a game from the late 90's (Gran Turismo) has a better feel.

I have to agree.
In a way it felt like the most realistic game I've ever played. The way the car moved was fairly believable but as you said everything was very clunky. Turning felt slow and was generally difficult to handle it.

Also I won't be signing up to this. I think racing games should be about Single Player and LAN only. Online gaming with a racing game just doesn't work. You hit someone when going round a corner but they weren't actually there? Any lag will destroy that race for you.

whoa, man...chill, NFS Shift isn't fail. the real definition of fail was NFS Prostreet. :p
i have an ATi 4850 running at stock speeds and i maxxed out the game fine, with about 2xAA on. 1680x1050 res.

even before the patch i was still running the game fine.
can't wait for this game! :santa:

Indeed I have. Great game as long as you're playing it with a controller.

Grid does not have native support for the G27. That is auto fail for me, I'm sorry.

I have to input some insane crap for it to work

What about online?

Played it online a few times and it wasn't that amazing. Most people resort to flying round the corners and taking someone out rather than sticking to the proper racing lines.

Online gaming with a racing game just doesn't work. You hit someone when going round a corner but they weren't actually there? Any lag will destroy that race for you.

I have played over 100 hours online of Grid, The in-game anti lag system is very efficient. I've probably played GRID more than 200 hours total, I find it a great game.

Ah yeh in that way Grid is a very good game but pretty much every other racing MP has had lag issues that ruined a perfectly good race.

Maybe it's just me :)

online racing games don't have to be competitive. as long as you don't come across little eediots that can't use a keyboard then it's OK.
NFS is an arcade game anyway. who cares about winning races, it'd be fun to just get a few friends who also like cars and just racing each other or seeing their tastes in modding cars :santa:
i bet they'll be a few ricers online lol

If I just wanted to have a quick race with mates I would go to flatout for some real destruction!

oh oops, sorry i forgot to finish off that sentence. i think i had something i wanted to write but stopped half way lol. just ignore the keyboard bit.

it ruiins it when you come across little kids who don't konw what they're doing. cos they keep crashign into you...etc etc.
but there should be an option so each player is invisible to the other - they can't purposely slam into each other? i think that's what happens in GRID, unless you turn it off.

That would make the game more enjoyable for me.

the graphics are so good for a free online game.
i reckon it's like the NFS version of WoW, when it becomes open to public.

really?
i beg to differ, i reckon they fixed the dodgy steering from NFS Carbon to Prostreet in NFS Shift.

the handling of cars was pretty good in NFS Underground series and Most Wanted though.
the steering in World is pretty much the same as Most Wanted.
the graphics are really sharp man...SO GOOD!
