Here's the scoop. For some odd reason my current sound card's (a Gullimot Maxi Sound Fortissimo PCI) drivers cause Windows XP to take 3 (!) minutes to boot up. My Counter-Strike server/secondary gaming machine could use a sound card. My mobo (an Epok 8KHA+) comes with integrated sound. If if use the integrated sound, and put my PCI card in the server, what kind of performance hit could I expect? See my sig for my specs.

Next time post in the correct forum as this will be moved to Video and Sound Section sooner or later :D

But you would expect a big hit I'm guessing since the integerated sound are never good especially onboard. And overclocking and onboard sound are never a good combination.

You should see for yourself though.

Your OC could take a big dive. Its all depends on how well that sound is really intergrated. Most times it can't take it and you may have to lower the OC just a bit. Also you may see a drop in your system Resources. Other than that I am not too sure you would see much other than that. Maybe an artifact or two in your sound.

Do you have 2 systems with one PCI sound card and the other with the integrated sound? There shouldnt be any performance degration or increase, only in the sound quality. If youre having problems with your sound. Hit ctrl alt del, click the and set your sound priority level to high. This is, if youre running win2k or xp. I cant remember if you can do this on 98.

and if youre using one sysyem. Then the reason why your puter is taking so long to boot is because youre having hardware conflicts. Disable the on board sound if it isnt already, and install the latest drivers for your pci sound card.
