Ok...read the front page on the PEP66 article and i am going to give it a try on my T-Bird...so I was wondering if the clip gave enough pressure to meed the AMD Requirments?
And I was wondering if it would be better than the coolermaster in my sig with the same fan cause its all I got.
TIA:D
The PEP 66 is really old and meant for slotkets more than the Socket chips.
Are you talking about your current Coolermaster? Is it an ordinary or which one?

Yeah its an ordinary Coolermaster DP5-6131A w/Delta 30cfm. It this one here. (http://www.coolermaster.com/products/cpucooler/fcpga/dp5-6i31a.html) It has Arctic Alumnia not that pink TIM.
I know its not good but I need to get a new one and I am really low on funds and all I have is this and the PEP66. The T-Bird is at stock speed Idling at 42-44ºC and Maxing out at around 48-52ºC. I am not sure how accurite the insocket Thermisitor is.:rolleyes
I am new to AMD and still need some guidance.

If you don't mind ordering online, try svcompucycle.com.
You can get a Alpha PAL 8045 cheap. Real cheap.

Hi Frank,
For me the Pep66 will outperform the Coolermaster HS, especially if you put the fan on top blowing into the HS ;)

I gotta tell ya, my PEP66ROCKS !!!!!
My temps have never gone out of the 40C range. Maybe a max of 44C with the XP. It had gone higher when I had a Duron on there.
I use 2 fans. A 26cfm YSTech on Top and a Pabst:beer: (?)
"Ducted" on the side.
Enclosed is a pic.
I use a little tape to reduce the opening in the side. Where System air comes in, and it increases the velosity accross the CPU.
Check it out. It ain't pretty, but if it did, it wouldn't go as fast.
The "Duct" is madee from a Dixie cup box. :D
for the same money may I recomend the Coolermaster HHC-001
I have had it since first day for sale and LOVE IT!

Hey The Doors,
Do you mean topmount the fan like in WarriorII's post? or should I have it regular way(like in the instructions) and have the Fan suck the air through the HSF and blow it into the bottom PSU fan?
What is the best fan setup with this?

Yes Frank, I've got the best results with this config, with the fan on top that blows the fresh air onto the HS fins, and the hot air is exhausted by the sucking Ps fan into the Case or by the Case exhaust fan, like in the WarriorII example ;)

Well, if you have $20, I would go with the millennium glaciator I, plus it comes with artic silver. Go to www.millennium-thermal.com and find it. It really rocks for the price, and is solid copper. Very quite too.

Well it didnt work as well as I thought. Its Idling at 47ºC and Maxing out at like 53-54ºC.
I cleaned off the HSF and applied Arctic Silver II and I used it instead of Alumnia. Topmounted the Fan. Cleaned the CPU with acetone and Alcohol.
Im not sure how accurate the insocket thermisetor is cause all these temps are being read by MBM 5.

The in socket thermisters are usually always off. You have any other means to measure the die temperature? You could also try reversing the fans flow on your heatsink. I my case it worked, it may not work with your setup, but it's worth a try.

I'm using the PEP66T with the 26 cfm Y/S Tech fan on my Epox 8KHA+ board along with the Enermax 431W P/S. This setup works great because the fan on the PEP66T blows the air off the heatsink directly into the intake fan on the Enermax and it is taken straight out the Enermax exhaust fan to the outside.
This has turned out to be a surprisingly good setup which wasn't planned....it just kinda fell into place.
Right now I'm running at 33C or about 92-93F. Even if I run Seti, it only tops out at about 38C or 98F. I've never hit 100F.
Mind you I'm not overclocking my AMD XP 1600+........not yet at least.
I'm VERY PLEASED with the PEP66T ....I have ordered a Sanyo Denki Ace 25 to see if it'll perform similarly but quieter (it's not too bad with the Y/S Tech though)....

Frank, I suppose that the high temps that you've got depends by a not perfect fitting of the HS on the Cpu. This coz the Pep is very high, more with the fan top mounted, and for the weight, and for the orizontal position into the Case, tends to be not perpendicular to the Cpu Core, and shift down. Try to lightly press on upper part of the fan, or better lift up a little the HS from the lower part of the bottom and look at what happen to the temps, it helped me a lot ;) just for your info this happens to me with the Glaciator II too, coz if very tall compared to the Pep is very very heavy ;)
