i have a black ice micro 2 cooling my cpu right now i want to add another radiator to cool my ati radeon hd4870 1GB what size radaitor should i use or should i use one big one like a 120.3 or 120.4 to cool both the cpu and cpu

with a ambient temp of 24 c my idle temp are 26 c and load temp 43c running cpuburnin for 10 mins. it is a amd athlon x4 630 at 2.8 GHz on a swiftech apogee gt water block using 3/8" ID hose using a DD CPX1 pump

what do yall suggest?

If you have the room and cash....I would go 120.4 or (quad rad) The quad will take care of your needs and then some, , , leaving you pleanty of room for more GPUs and OCing..with the same rad.

Plus you can use some 1500rpm fans, which would run on low 5v giving you a real quite rig too,,,,, this way you aviod running a dual or triple rad in a push/pull setup or getting high rpm fans if you decided to go with 2X or 3X gpus in the future

Goodness, you don't need a 120x4. The math on your heatload says ????

A Black Ice SR1 120x2 is 240mm vs 160mm, and much more effiecient. Get some quality 120mm 2000 rpm fans your fine.

120.4 would be too big for my case i have a mid size case that about 17" tall x 16" deep plus my power supply on top wa

condrum the tdp of my proc is 95 watts and the tdp of the hd4870 is about 160w
like to overclock the proc to about 3.5 i think the tdp would be about 125w then

im looking about 285w of so to cool . i guess i could mount a 120.2 on the back of my case with a radbox

285 under load. If you load both of them. Gaming doesn't push it at testing loads. So your under 250, if not 230 or so at high normal use. Look at this link for more info on your heatload.

The rad test is a 120x3, so look at 1/3 higher DT temps. Use the blue line, about 2000 rpm fans. Your DT would be under 10C, so your good to go.

Use Skinnees site to look at MANY rads. BOOKMARK!!

Might as well give you this link too, look at the Swiftech MCR rads to save some pennies.

And since your mounting it off the back, might as well spend a bit more for a 120x3 and run low speed fans. Your temps won't hold back any overclock or voltage mod on the GPU. A 120x4 would be silly for your needs though.

conumdrum if i use a swiftech mcr320 what fans should i use for a quiet setup im sure that radiator plenty for my setup. im sure it be alot better than my black ice micro 2 with 2000rpm 25 cfm 80mm fans!!

LOL yes. If you want the current best, get gentle Typhoons 1450 RPM fans and use a fan controller to turn them down even more. The best for the price (used these fans for years) is the medium Yate Loons from Petras. You can get FOUR (nice to have a spare for umm $23? or less. You could get the low speeds, but the mediums of either are darn silent at 8 volts or so.

A cheap, very nice (I got one) fan controller.

3 fans hooked to one channel.

The slims (20mm or less? thick) barely push any air, poor pressure. Not recommended.

i did some measuring on the back of my case and if i use swiftech radbox the bottom of my case to the radbox would be about 12" so a 120.3 isnt going to work how about a 120.2 to cool my setup amd athlon x4 630 and a hd4870 1GB?

You might have to use 4x yate loons for push/pull and you should be good to go.

I've got a 320 rad mounted with a radbox and 3x Scythe Ultra Kaze fans, but I had to use a fan controller to lower the speeds on the fans for a more quiet operation. Me likes the silence

i hate having top mounted power supply dont have many options see my pictures

Honestly you should consider getting a larger case. The case you have now is very limited. You can probably get away with the 220 rad mounted in the rear with a radbox, but it may block you from getting the monitor cable to the video. Also it may block the I/O shield.

You can pput the rad out as far as you like with threaded rods and nuts. I have seen 1" to 4", it's all up to you.

And yea the 120mm Yates are good fans. The tiny ones you got won't work on the 120x2 rad. And 120x2 is just enough, you should still consider the 120x3. When you get a bigger CPU or GPU you will need the extra cooling someday.
