I'm not quite sure this issue has to do with the video card, but it's my best guess. If anyone has ever had this problem, please help. I have attatched an animated gif depicting the problem. This occurs in Quake 3, Red Faction, and Notepad (yes notepad.) It most likely happens in other programs, but i have not yet found any (the unreal tournament engine doesn't do this at all [UT, Deus Ex, Clive Barker]). It seems like the top half of the screen refreshes after the bottom, leaving some sort of trail. It is only noticable when passing a corner. Just imaging the black line being a pillar in Q3 that I am strafing by. Also, the trail is not smooth, but as square as depicted in the gif.

-------------------------

another problem I am having, this only happens in Midtown madness/2. The perspective seems all wrong, and there are crazy colors, lines, big rectangles covering half the screen flying everywhere??? I have updated drivers to the latest (tried detonatro and leadtek drivers)

Never seen anything like that... Try changing your monitor's refresh rate? Try turning v-sync on/off for direct3d? Try different drivers? I've used detonator 22.40, 23.11, and 27.20 with good results.

Try this: remove the side panel of your case and set a fan to blow in on your components. Your video card might be too hot, maybe that'll help.

thanks for the suggestions, i've tried all but the fan one, which would be a lot of work for something I doubt is the problem (only some games do it. I have tried every refresh rate, at different resolutions, but the fact the notpad (which is about as far away from 3d accelerated as you can be) when i look at the very wide MBM5 interval log and scroll horizontally. I have tried the dets 23.11, and tonight im DLing the new leaked 27.30. hope it does something!

Download testvram (a dos based program-runs on a floppy at bootup) and try running this.

Does anyone have a link to download testvram? Google came up only with russian sites. I downloaded it, and the instructions were in russian. When i tried running it in dos from a bootable floppy, I got lots of strange symbols and a really odd reolution. I usually don't have problems running dos programs.

Great as dos is what you will need to use. Bootable floppy. Go out to www.guru3d.com and it is under utilities I believe.
