You almost have to approach every motherboard on a case by case basis. Even withing the same make and model, manufacturing variances will impact the accuracy. Component tolerances will also impact the accuracy. Think about your readings for a second. It reports your motherboard temperature as 18C. What temperature is your PC room at? If it is 18C or warmer, then you know that reading is wrong. That will give you some insight into how much to trust the CPU reading. All the on-board thermistors should be used for is a general indicator unless you calibrate them. Certainly not for accurate measurement. Different heatsinks effect the accuracy of the in-socket thermistor that monitors your CPU, as well as how it is positioned. Properly tuned, the in-socket thermistor can give a fairly accurate reading, but if you get the equipment needed to accurately calibrate it, you might as well use that equipment to measure temps.

What simply amazes me is that with all we know about the in-socket thermistor and the vagueties the effect its performance, some alleged knowledgable people still use them to evaluate heat sink performance as if they were some precise measuring system. They publish results and the unknowing viewer assumes that if it is in print, then it must be valid.

the motherboard temps are just above my room temps cause its in an enclosure with no vent, actually the computer is set up in my garage and its COLD out there just above freezing and the enclosure is to reduce condensation and quiet that delts :). moved it out there so it would run cooler overclocked.... in the house it was idling around 35C and load around 45-50C mark@1725mhz now its @ 1650 with a 36C load running Quake3 and Unreal Tournament back to back for like 5 hours :)

some are accurate, some arent, jus all depends on how lucky u are
