Probs installing Shockwave player in Win XP

I'm trying to install, without luck :( the Macromedia Shockwave player under Win XP Corporate edition, well, every time IE hangs during the installation (application not respond).
I've tried, like sugested into the FAQ, using the Shockwave uninstaller and after preceed another time with the installation, but I get always the same results!
Please what do you think about?

Why are you trying to install something that comes with XP?

Its the only third party plugin to ship with Win XP.

Well, coz doesn't work on my system :(
