Wow, very basic, but still a very good deal if someone is looking for a work computer. Hell you could part it out and get more for the parts then the whole thing cost.

Yeah if I hadn't just bought 4 2tb Hitachi's for $105.99 per drive I'd be all over this.

x3430 at $209 alone.

Did anyone see that they want to charge you $800 more for a 2TB HD over the 250GB drive it comes with? :sly:

Brand new retail. (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-XEON-X3430-QC-LGA1156-2-4G-8MB-CHIPDDR3-1333MHZ-BOX-/380157774749?cmd=ViewItem&pt=CPUs&hash=item58832b4b9d#ht_3072wt_1189) The only other parts that are easy to get rid of are the HD, ram, and maybe optical drive. The case, dell motherboard, and psu aren't worth much. Not really worth it to part it out in my opinion. If you actually have a good use for this system then it doesn't sound so bad.

Yeah I never suggested to buy just to part it out, but it'd be a great system for grandma! Solitaire never ran so fast!

What I meant was, that if you took just the main components that you could "easily" get rid of, it would cover the price of the computer. The case/optical/PSU/cables are a freebie. I'd venture to say, you would be hard pressed to even find a C2D for this price.

I also noticed the 250GB is $129. Too bad you can't order it without a HDD.

The sad part is that my school buys optiplexes from dell kitted out with higher end hardware that they don't really need for just browsing the web.

Damn that would have been perfect to start my Vmware/file server!
