I've had my Hercules GeForce3 Ti500 since it came out, but have never tried the TV out option on it. Well now i want to, and am having problems. I have the newest drivers and everything installed for it, but when i go to Device Selection, it grays out TV Output so i cannot select it. well then i press "Detect Devices" at the bottom, and it doesnt detect that the TV is hooked up to it. I even turned the tv on and put it in the right video mode to see if that was the problem. But i just cannot get the TV out option selected no matter what i do :(

Im sure one of you know...

You probably already did this, but did you make sure the tv out is connected to the right composite jack on the TV side. The same thing happened to me when I hooked up my Asus v7700 deluxe to the out jack on my vcr instead of the in jack. Give a VCR input a try and see if it recognizes that. Or try another wire.

Yeah the RCA cable works on other stuff - and is going into Video 2 in. with the TV set to Video 2. I even tried it through my reciever, with no luck. I restarted my computer, did the whole shabang but its still not working... im just getting somewhat angry now :(

Nvidia cards have always sucked when it came to TV out, in the other hand ATI are great for this. This is one of the disadvantages of the Nvidia based cards.

drivers are the problem here!

Unfortunately, the nVidia reference board design does NOT include the TV-out daughtercard or chip. It seems like all the GF-makers use a different one! So, device-specific drivers for the TV out doodad are not included in Det releases. ( This was the conclusion I ended up at after I had the same problem with my MSI GTS)

In order for it to work, you are usually stuck with the manufacturer's drivers that came with the card. :(

I agree with Monster of Rock. you should download the latest drivers from the card manufacturers website and see if it works.

I agree that he should get the latest drivers from the manufacturer but would the regular nvidia drivers even have an option to choose TV out since it is based on the reference design? His appears to give him a screen in the advanced settings of the display menu to choose outputs already.

I still think its more likely due to the composite output not seeing a proper impedance load and therefore not realizing its connected. Do you have a s-video to composite adapter, its worth a shot if you do.

Edit - I checked mine last night and it does grey out the tv radio button when I unplug either end of the patch cord going to my vcr.

Well with my card I was able to see the computer screen but not able to see DVDs on my tv. I had to switch back to the drivers from gainward for my card then it worked.

my leadtek ti500 works fine with a s-video to rca adapter, and the rca plugged in my vcr.

using the det 23.11(because leadteks drivers are the worst i've ever seen)

takes my dvd quality and makes it look like vhs though, god i need a new tv:(

I have a GeForce 2 mx 400 w/tv out and one ov the options it gives is "force detection of a monitor on the secondary connection" i checked that box and it worked
in dipplay properties under settings click advanced then the twin view tab and it should be there duno if this helps but it cant hurt

for some reason MX cards are the only nVidia cards with the Twinview feature- that procedure won't work on non-MX cards. I wish they would put that feature on some other cards, it doesn't make sense why the cheapest card gets the coolest feature:)

heh, if only my GTS were Twinview that would rock!

One last thought on this. If you have an ohmmeter/multitester do a continuity test on the outside part of the rca cable on each end. If not just use a lightbulb and an AA,C or D battery to see if see if current can flow through the shielded part. The cable might work on normal devices even if the shielded part has a break but may not work with the card.
