Speakers making static noise...

I started using my old Antec Lansing 2100 2.1 speaker system, but the left speaker is making a static noise.

Any ideas on DIY repair? What could be the problem?

Old speaker brings to mind old (oxidized) wiring, or loose/oxidized connections.

With the speakers on, wiggle the wire around for that speaker and see if the static noise 'coincides' with the movement of the wire (the crackling will tend to get worse/more pronounced as you move the wire, and settle down when you leave the wire alone). If this is the case, then you'll need to further trouble shoot and see if its the wire, or the connection that needs fixing. Usually, its the point of connection that needs some cleaning up of oxidation to make better contact.
