View Full Version : Will this PSU supply my needs?
here is the PSU i'm looking at. it's a well known brand, not too expensive, and it is modular. i'm also hoping it is built to be quiet like the x-650 and x-750.

now will this power supply be more than enough to handle my needs?
what i'm running in my computer is
3 HDDs (may add 1 more in the future)
8800GTS gpu
4 fans total
optical dvd burner/reader
and i plan to keep the video card for another year or two. probably the newer cards by then might draw more power? will this PSU be able to handle it?
edit: i've changed link from a 500w psu to a 620w

You did your homework, top quality unit, quiet and more than enough for what you have even with a GPU upgrade later. It's hard to determine future GPU requirements but you could upgrade to any single high-end GPU now and still have more than enough.

Yup that should be great. It shouldn't have an issue with any single GPU that doesn't violate PCIe specs.

Heh...it can handle one out of spec if its that penryn dual he's got even way overclocked.... good choice +3.
I have an antec 650 trio that runs my I7 at up to 4950mhz with a 4870x2 or 2 9800gtx's in an antec 1200 with tons of fans, also runs all this with 3 hdd's with no issues. and that psu as prolly all of what my antec is. no problems at all for you, very good choice
SeaSonic makes excellent PSUs and that one would run your system fine. With two 24a 12v rails, you could easily run your system plus another hard drive and two more 8800GTS cards with that PSU if you really wanted to.
If I may make a suggestion: also check out the Corsair 650TX (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005). With a single 12v rail (52a), it may make your life a little simpler in the future if you upgrade to a couple power-hungry GPUs. On that note, it also gives you two 6+2pin PCI Express power connectors. The Corsair TX series is an excellent bunch of PSUs with decent efficiency.
Thanks for the confirmation guys. I ordered it earlier this evening and am looking forward to having it on my doorstep tomorrow!

The ones I were looking at, however, were all in the 150-200 bucks range which I was not willing to spend on until I found the SeaSonic PSU which is awesome for the price and being that it has received a lot of positive feedback and it being released on the market not too long ago (probably 3 months since then).

A 400W would've been enough. Or 500W if you will upgrade to an ultra high end single card.
